R'vi grinned at the boy's immediate belief that he was needed as a messenger. For a moment he considered leading him on, letting him think that was why he was wanted but R'vi didn't think that'd be very fair. He didn't want the kid to start doubting people coming to see him or to question the wrong rider who wouldn't have a sense of humour. He'd never live down the guilt of being the reason someone else got in trouble, especially with one of the heavy-handed men roaming around. Besides, this kid seemed so bright-eyed and innocent that he couldn't ruin that either.
"No, I don't need a messenger but you are correct on me being a bluerider," R'vi's grin turned into a more friendly smile as he watched the boy try to figure out his rank. He both loved and hated wearing the knots that showed his rank. He loved them because he'd always wanted to be a dragonrider since he was old enough to voice that desire so wearing them was a badge of honour and achievement. He hated them, though, because it meant he was dressed more formally than usual instead of in an unbuttoned shirt -- or no shirt at all! -- and it reminded him of the gap between his twin and him. He missed Nyvian terribly, even when they did get together it didn't feel the same anymore. They had both matured and found their own paths and R'vi hated it. He missed his brother and what they had and he hated that Nyvian didn't need him anymore, especially since he still felt like he needed his brother.
"Honestly, I'm not even from this Weyr," R'vi confessed with a laugh, brushing his hair from his eyes. "I came to visit some friends and R'nd told me about this bright new Candidate he brought in not too long ago and I wanted to say hi and see if there was anything I could do for you."
R'vi entered the room a bit more but made it very obvious he wasn't intending on invading the boy's space or even trapping him by keeping the door open and himself out of the way. "I'm R'vi, by the way. Rider of Vydoriath. I think he's socializing with Veeth, V'ler's blue, and Venseth, Indivara's blue, at the moment and yes, it is kind of ridiculous that there are so many Vs in all of our names." R'vi actually loved that fact and wondered if they should form a little club.
