Welcome!
We, the staff and members of World of Pern would like to welcome you to our little corner of the internet, and we hope you enjoy your stay with us, whether that stay be long or short! We’d like to invite you to check out our Frequently Asked Questions, as well as this here page of Rules and Regulations.
World of Pern is a canon Dragonriders of Pern, set on the brink of the Fourth Pass. We center strongly on character development and inter personal plotting, with the occasional site-wide plot to spice things up. We are an 18+ community, and cater mostly to more advanced writers.

Member Conduct
01. Pern hopes to create a welcoming and warm community for all members, and we encourage the members themselves to partake in this goal. Members are encouraged to welcome one another to the site, partake in chats in Discord, as well as plotting, posting and general conversation on the forums themselves.
02. Nobody is perfect, nor is any one community without bumps and scuffles. However, Pern does encourage all members to be mature and handle issues with decorum. In the event that a conflict arises that cannot be settled, please reach out to a Team Member, and we will be more than happy to help mediate. Remember that everyone here at Pern is human, and apologising and forgiveness, as well as kindness and understanding go a long way. We are all here to have fun and relax.
03. World of Pern strongly believes in the communication between Players for all topics that are played out on site, and encourages Players to use the [M]ature tag where they feel necessary for topics that might be of a mature nature, or could cause issues if browsed upon. Trigger warnings and thread alerts are not required, but encouraged by those who feel comfortable including them. That said, topics of such nature should be kept to the [NSFW] room of the site Discord channels.

Joining & Activity
01. Upon deciding to join our site, please register with your chosen Out of Character handle. This name should ideally be of a type that is not related to a character and/or dragon name, but instead something the forum members will identify you as for the duration of your stay at World of Pern. You should also join our Discord with a similar name.
02. World of Pern has many types of characters available for play. However, in the event that you wish to claim a character (eg, a goldrider, a lord holder, or a Master Crafter) you are encouraged to claim them here. This will prevent issues of doubling up on restricted character slots.
03. While we do not have activity requirements for general characters, it should be noted that those in a position of rank (eg, Masters, Lords, Weyrleaders, Wingleaders etc) are expected to be available for RP should another member approach and request to thread. If a Player is consistently unable to partake in threads when requested, they may be asked to reconsider holding the associated rank.
04. We do not hold Activity Checks; A Player may retain any character they've created, with or without posting, as they desire. Occassionally we may run a request for Players to assist in updating information. Players are free to contact a Team Member and request an NPC/Adoptable be added or removed from their account at any time.
Character accounts with posts are never deleted.
05. In the event that you are going to be away, please fill out the ‘Away Information’ portion of the profile, with the appropriate information. Be sure that the check box for ‘Away status for all attached accounts’ is checked. Please include as much information as you are comfortable with. Additionally, you are encouraged to post in the #Absence-notice channel of Discord to let us know you’ll be away.

Writing Standards
01. World of Pern encourages ‘intermediate’ to ‘advanced’ writing, where most posts on site are in excess of 200 words. While we won’t hold members to a hard count of two-hundred, we do request that members strive for this count and avoid ‘one liner’ type posts. Post mirroring is encouraged, btu not required. We are third-person, past tense only.
02. As can be expected, Pern frowns upon examples of god-modding or otherwise controlling a character that is not your own, though it is allowed if permission is granted by the other Player. We encourage replying in a timely manner, or communicating with your Partner if there will be delays.
03. New topics – Threads – should be created as follows: Subject: YYY.MM.DD | TITLE
Description: ## AM/PM | [Participating Characters]
You can see how they should look by accessing the In Character forums, such as this one
04. Pern also has a selection of Prefixes available for In Character threads. They include: [EVENT], [OPEN], [PRIVATE], [COMPLETE] and the same options with a [M] for Mature topics, and [T] for Taboo topics (eg, incest). It is important to select the appropriate Prefix when creating your thread, and to adjust it as appropriate – eg, if it becomes Mature, please change to the [M] variation; and upon completion, change to [COMPLETE].
05. Pern uses a Plugin that feeds Thread creation, and replies, through to Discord. Information that comes through to Discord includes the Poster, Thread Rating ([G] or [M]) the Title, the Location, and a Link. [G] rated threads also include a blurb, though [M] threads do not. You are able to sign up to the Groups on Discord to recieve a notification when [G], [M] or Both types of posts are made.
06. We have a tagging system, and you are encouraged to use it! You can tag Players, or characters, by typing @Username. This will usually prompt a menu for you to select from, but if not, it should still work fine. The Tagged account will receive an alert, and a tagged Character will alert the Player account.
07. Post templates are not permitted. Bolding of speech is frowned upon and should be avoided. The only colour used in a post should be of the dragon speech, of which a custom code will be created for ease of writing. Thoughts should be in italic and do not need symbols (eg, ‘, < or >). Speech should be encased in quotes: “Speech.”

Image Regulations
01. Face Claims are required. All Face Claims must be chosen from the true celebrity pool, and they must be famous in their own right – Eg, the spouse of a celebrity is not applicable, unless they themselves are a celebrity. A Face Claim may be anyone from an actor to a vocal artist or anything in between. Instagarm Models are fine to be used.
02. All avatars are 400 pixels high and 250 pixels wide. Images used in the character profiles should be of this same size.
03. We encourage artwork of characters, especially the use of commissioned from artists such as those found on deviantART. All artwork should be properly credited, and though it cannot be used as a Character’s avatar, we love to see artwork of characters in their profiles.
