Benden Weyr lies on the far east side of the Northern Continent, embedded among the mountains. The volcano housing the Weyr has a natural double crater with an immense vaulted cavern for their Sands. Full of natural caverns and corridors that only had to be widened and smoothened, much of Benden has a natural feel to it. To the south the mountains and valleys are filled with nut and fruit trees, while the environment east to the sea is rather sparse and rocky. Perhaps because of Bitra's influence to the west, Benden Weyr is known for gambling games.

Located to the east of Benden Hold and along the Benden Range, Ice Ridge Hold faces out into large open plains with a river that leads from the mountain out to the Eastern Sea. It is known more for their breed of work horses but they also have a successful apple orchard. The current Lord and Lady also have strong ties to the Weyrs and are vocal supporters that have hosted yearly winter festivities for dragonriders since their return.

Weyrwoman: Rhaedalyn Weyrsecond: An'tell Jr. Weyrwoman: Azelina [ANPC] Mentors: Jajojin, Wenon Gold Ladies:N/A Fort is located in the mountains of the southwestern peninsula of the Northern Continent, quite close to both the Harper Hall and the main Healer Hall. Housed in a medium sized volcano (by Weyr standards), Fort Weyr seems to have been carefully carved into the mountain to most efficiently use its available space. The ground entrance to the Weyr is a grand arched tunnel set in the southern wall near the bowl's lake. The territory around Fort Weyr is rather lush, with farmlands to the north just east of the mountain range, and thick forests to the south. The mountain range tends to create fluctuating and occasionally unpredictable weather patterns in the immediate vicinity of the Weyr. According to Weyr policy, girls who wish to stand at Fort must agree to undergo training as healers. |

Located to the west of Fort Weyr, Hidden View Hold is exactly that. It lies along the mountain range in the valley that separates it from the range the Weyr is a part of. It is most easily reached by dragon or the river that flows through the valley and out to the Western Sea. Because of this, Peyton Hold to the south along the river, is one of their biggest trading locations aside from the Masterweaver Hall which is happy to take their wool as Hidden Valley specializes in breeding sheep along with a few other livestock. The Hold also has a tragic past that most are no longer aware of. It used to be called Retallek Hold until a harsh winter late in the Second Pass wiped out the population. It was eventually resettled and renamed, though trouble still seems to follow the Lords of the Hold--most recently, the Lord Holder was removed by Lord Fort and the Hold was gifted to a young and untested Lord. |

Weyrleader: M'ris
Weyrwoman: Ameris Weyrsecond: A'dis Jr. Weyrwoman: Vaeyla Mentor: Open Gold Ladies:N/A One of the more striking Weyrs, the north rim of the bowl was called the Seven Spindles for the high, crownlike points arrayed around that end, formed of old flow from the volcano and clipped to sharp spikes when the caldera blew up in ages past. The Sands are set in a wide, high, oval cavern at the northernmost edge of the Bowl near the largest weyrs. Windy and bleak, prone to blizzards blown in from the sea to the west, the mountains are quite harsh and rocky, but the sheltered valleys are full of game and stands of hardy conifers and alpine grasses.

Due to its northwestern and isolated location on a peninsula, High Reaches Hold is windy and often cold. Because of this, the Hold itself is nestled deep into the mountain, with not as many windows as other Holds on display overlooking the ocean. It only has a few small cotholds in the immediate area that lend to its isolation, though they do have their own weaver Hall that is highly skilled and use llama hair to create soft and warm cloth. Knitting is also a popular practical skill with gloves, sweaters, and leggings for under leathers being top items. Their other main industry is shipbuilding, second only to Tillek Hold. Llamas also serve as their pack animal of choice due to the climate and terrain. Fortified/mulled wines and fruit brandies are popular in the region to help against the long and cold season, which a portion of their vast importation of spices goes to--the rest going to preserving meat and fish. |

Nabol has rich grasslands, on which ovines and domestic wherries are raised. Nabol also has a lucrative expanse of woodland filled with popular and valuable soft woods popular for furniture-making as well as soil perfect for lavender fields in one area and growing root vegetables and greens in another. Their land can also host grapevines though apple trees for cider is more preferred. It is because of all of this that Nabol has a reputation for greed as they do not part with their items easily or cheap. They don't often host Gathers due to this, though they do have a beautiful area for it in a meadow with mountain water flowing through. The Hold itself shares that flow of water with a large courtyard paved with flagstones that even hosts a kitchen with an entry to the Great Hall. It is carved into a mountain and still maintains a low overhang that used to be for sheltering animals during Threadfall but is now simply an entryway. |

Located on the most western peninsula, Tillek is not only known for its dry red wine and fishing endeavours. They are also the best at shipbuilding, which they get the wood from their expansive conifer forest in the warm months. During the cold months, they pre-assemble aged wood to be shipped off to the shipwrights when the weather breaks. Knitting is just as important and done by the fishermen in the cold months and storms as they work on hardy mittens that fetch a good price at Gathers and their uniquely stitched fishing nets.

A minor Hold beholden to Tillek Hold and located to the east of it, Misty Hold is nestled into an alcove of the mountain range along the Western Sea. Due to its isolated position, Misty doesn't have much to offer in the ways of trade and export, relying more on fishing to further support Tillek and the Fishercraft Hall. However, in recent years, they have gained a reputation as a good place to foster sons at and have proven to be strong in social and political environments, making Misty Hold a worthy ally.

The rim of the extinct volcano that houses Igen Weyr has been eroded into sharp and interesting patterns by the constant wind across the desert that stretches to the southwest. East across the river lie vast grassy plains. It is intensely bright at the Weyr with clouds a rare and welcome sight. If it were occupied, most of the activity would have to take place in the cool evening since during the day since even the lake wouldn't be safe, acting like a mirror to reflect the merciless sun back in the eyes of bathers.

Igen Hold is located on the eastern edge of the great desert where it overlooks a rock high above the wide yet shallow and muddy Igen River. It is due to this terrain that rice is one of their largest exports with ovines, horses, tropical fruits, and a few types of gems close behind as they are also a major trading hub. Population in the region is sparse and mostly found along the coastline or to the northwest of the Hold in the grassy plains with no cotholds directly near the main Hold due to the river flooding regularly. Due to the dry heat, burnoose robes and broad-brimmed hats are popular, with some holders adding veils to block the sun and dust. Like Ista, hammocks are popular and furs are not needed. There are also deep caverns under the Hold that are filled with ice and snow regularly once more by dragons to help keep food from spoiling and to create frozen treats like sorbet and ice cream. Gathers at the Hold are slow during the day but pick up at night when it is cooler and enjoyment can be had. |

The Hold is located in a mountainous outcropping on the southeastern tip of the region. The land is grassy plains with only a smattering of trees which makes it perfect for raising large herds. They specialize in horses, bovine, porcine, and to a lesser extent, ovine.
It's most famous landmark is the Red Butte, an igneous and ridged dome of massive size. Dragonriders took to using it to help weyrlings learn how to travel between. No posts have been made in this forum.

Weyrleader: J'zaq
Weyrwoman: Casa Weyrsecond: R'dan Jr. Weyrwoman: Ojassa Mentors: Alcynnia Gold Ladies:N/A Situated on the bay at the southwest corner of the Big Island and surrounded by dense tropical forest, the black half volcano thrusts four fingers and a thumb into the tropical sky. The mountain must have been formed by an eruption that knocked the bay half of its caldera into the sea, letting lava flow in a gradual drop-off, which the pounding of the current has worn away into a plateau. For all its tiny size, Ista has a mindboggling, mazelike warren of narrow tunnels that double back and run into one another. Since part of the volcano wall is missing, Ista has added forest facing weyrs on the outer walls of the volcano. The beach under Ista Weyr is sand that, when inspected, proves to be black diamond dust. It is a popular spot to visit for residents and visitors alike. Ista Boundaries are Tropical in nature with a Monsoon climate; this means that they are driest during the winter months, and drenched in rainfall during the summer season. There is no snowfall in the Istan boundaries, even in the middle of their coldest winters. Instead, their average temperature is 35C/95F in the summer and 17C/62F in the winter. Being coastal and tropical, Ista is prone to cyclones, notably between the months of 04 and 10, if they happen. Most of their cyclones are on the lower scale, but a major one occurred in recent history – 722 AL – when Ista Hold was about 70% destroyed and had to be rebuilt. |

Ista Hold is in a tropical region that never goes below 55F/13C during the day, though it is typically very hot. Because of the heat, many sleep on hammocks and dress in thin to little clothing at all. Its major exports are fish, gems and gem dust, herbs, and their most popular export of citrus fruits as it can't grow in most northern regions. Healers will also often travel to the region to harvest needlethorn. The largest draw to Ista comes at Turnover where they host a large outdoors Gather thanks to their still hot climate. Guests and Harpers come from all regions for what is a celebration that lasts for several days straight through the nights. |

Weyrwoman: Mulrissa Weyrsecond: T'ryn Jr. Weyrwoman: Cazan, Mylorah Mentor: Open Gold Ladies:N/A Telgar Weyr is in a massive volcano at the top of the Central Mountain Range just south of its junction with the Northern Barrier. Tunnel Road, the ground entry, is cut into the thinnest wall of the Weyr and is quite steep in places. The southern and eastern mountains are covered in dense woodlands save for their peeks while the terrain to the west tends to be rockier with shorter dense scrub. With The Smithcrafting Hall located nearby, the caverns and corridors carved into the Weyr tend to be quite neatly and cleanly done, and the Weyr is easy to navigate.

New Katila is located quite a distance both South and West of the original location. It has the bonus feature of hot springs that were discovered on the edge of the forest, and is a much shorter walk from the Lake. You can see a map of the (completed) new Katilan set up by clicking here. Settled neatly under the edge of the Forest, the new base for Katila is located just an hour or so from the edge of the Lake, and is right on top of several hot springs that were discovered within the edge of the forest. The buildings are condensed within a smallish area, and created specifically to house survivors and those healing, with future plans to be used but not necessarily inhabited by large quantities of permanent residents. |

The vast majority of the original Katila Weyr was destroyed in the Landslide that occurred in the dawning hours of Day 1, Month 8, 234 AL. As a result, the Weyr opted to abandon the original settlement, and re-create the Weyr further South, where it was deemed a safer location. |
