Note: Gold dragons are not referred to as 'queens' in our canon.
Women; gold dragons were heavily modified by Kitti Ping, and as such, only look for lifemates in the form of cis-women. They are not, however, impacted by the sexual orientation of their rider.
<1% of the population, historically.
Due to the nature of the Site's plot, gold dragons have been Hatching at a higher rate than in history, meaning their average percentage of population is currently higher. There should, on average, be between 3 and 5 gold dragons per Weyr by the time Thread falls.
Always heterosexual female
Length: 30 - 40 feet
Height: 15 - 20 feet
Wingspan: 45 - 60 feet
Growth: 12 months
Sexual: 10+ months
While most golds won't reach sexual maturity before twelve months, there have been golds in the past that Flew as young as six months of age. This is very rare, and unlikely to happen again in our game. Most golds reach sexual maturity before they are two years old, but some have been known to not take their Maiden Flight until they are three or four years old.
First Flight takes place after sexual maturity is reached, usually between 12 and 24 months of age, though it may be later for some golds. Earlier is very rare, but has been known to happen in the past.
The average gold will Fly once every 12 months leading up to, and during, Threadfall. It is not uncommon, however, for a gold dragon to have a Flight Routine of once every 2, 3 or 4 years. Very rarely, a gold will fly more frequently; historically on site, this has been as regularly as every 6 months.
Golds tend to clutch anywhere from 5 to 45 eggs, depending on the gold in question. Usually a gold will clutch roughly the same sized clutches throughout her lifetime; most golds tend to range between 25 and 35 eggs. A gold may clutch as many as two gold eggs in one nest, or as few as zero.
Golds and their riders do not fight Threadfall. Instead, they are responsible for organising and maintaining control at the Weyr base with the Healers and their dragons, attending to those who return injured.
Goldriders are always heterosexual
Golds only bond to women suitable to leadership
Golds are haughty

Incapable of producing clutches, as they are genetically infertile. This was discovered by the original survivors at Katila, who tried to get the greens from Nirinath's first clutch to produce clutches, as they didn't get fed Firestone, which was until then, thought to be the reason for infertility.
Fly Threadfall in half-shifts, as they don't have the stamina for a full Fall. They are quick and agile, diving around to mop up the Thread that has fallen through the other dragons' flames, and catching it before it hits the ground.
