738.10.01 | Welcoming Committee - R'vi - 21.Dec.17

For the most part, R’vi was content to stay in Ista. Since his brother had Impressed well before him, he had to learn how to be alone. It had always been the two of them up against everything and everyone else. They had friends and were beyond popular but Nyvian was always beside him during it all. Impression hadn’t really changed either of them but they Impressed to different colours and it made for new relations and expectations. He had even been told by older riders that he should let Nyvian further spread his wings and live in a different Weyr to continue to grow as an individual and potentially one day be a Weyrleader. Having not wanted to be the reason any of his brother’s dreams be denied to him, R’vi had chosen another Weyr, making it seem like he longed for the heat of Katila and wanted to explore what was their birth home of Ista Weyr.

Still, he made visits to Telgar and Fort to visit friends and his twin when duties allowed and today was one of those days. He tried not to see Nyvian too regularly, lest he be called a bad influence and get the more responsible Vian in trouble but today he had spent the early afternoon with him and parted with the usual mix of joy and longing. He missed his brother and even sharing a hut with the man but they both had new lives now and R’vi was happy with what he had finally sorted out and who he had become.

He had sort of, accidentally, taken up the mantel R’nd had shed when he fell in love with B’jin and R’vi was starting to be known as the Candi Man. He liked to welcome the Ista Candidates with a smile, small talk, and promises they could find him at any time if they had questions or felt alone. Since he was at Telgar, he had popped in on R’nd for a quick visit as well and heard the older bluerider had been out Searching not too long ago and a new batch of Candidates were settling in. It wasn’t really his place to go and say hi but it also wasn’t forbidden. So long as they weren’t in a lesson and he wasn’t interrupting chores, R’vi didn’t see the harm in making friends.

Making his way to the Candidate housing area, R’vi greeted those he already knew and asked if any of the newbies were around. He was directed to the next room where they knew one of the younger boys was currently hanging out, though they didn’t know what he was up to. With a wave and a word of thanks, R’vi parted ways and headed to the room, giving a light knock and peaking in.

“Hi, you busy?” If the boy said he was, then he’d apologize and head out. If he wasn’t, then the kid was in for a treat; spending time with the sexier and way more fun Vian.

RE: 738.10.01 | Welcoming Committee - Phinarion - 28.Dec.17

Phinarion was studying, something he was wont to do and which hadn’t really earned him a lot of friends in his new environment. Many of the young men seemed to feel that Impressing a dragon would happen, no matter how well versed they were in Weyrlife, and of course, the Weyrbrats seemed particularly prone to this thought pattern. Phinarion figured that they probably weren’t wrong, but he wanted to really fit into his new home, and he didn’t ever want to go back to the farm. Therefore, he took to studying every lesson vigorously, and while his classmates might think him daft, his Weyrlingmaster at least thought he was fantastic. He rarely got questions wrong, and was often the first to offer up an answer when the group was questioned.

More than that, though, Phinarion found it all so fascinating! There was so much to learn, and so much to take in. The different colours, and the ranks they could hold. The requirements of each rank, and where they stood in the mess of dragonriders was interesting and presented a lot of questions. Mostly ones that couldn’t be answered, like what Phinarion thought he would do with himself if – when – he Impressed, which was, of course, so heavily reliant on what he would Impress, and even the talents of the dragon in question. He figured he’d like to be a Searchrider if he Impressed to blue or green, to give other boys the chance at a great new life but that depended on if his dragon had any talent for Searching. Or maybe he could be a Weyrlingmaster, since he loved to learn and he figured teaching couldn’t be that different. Or maybe a wingleader! Or even a Weyrleader! There were so many fantastic options, but he’d never know where he should aim, until he actually Impressed!

Phinarion looked up and over his shoulder at the sound of someone’s voice, blinking at the dragonrider that was peering into the room. “No, sir,” he responded, speaking clearly but obviously curious. “Did you need me to run a message?” he asked, turning in his seat and getting a good look at the man. He wasn’t old, by any means, but he was certainly older than Phinarion himself. He wasn’t particularly tall, but he looked physically fit and Phinarion figured that made sense; he could only imagine the labour involved in washing a dragon – he hadn’t yet had a chance to participated in that task – but he figured it was a good way to be kept fit. The boy smiled, waiting patiently for an answer from the – his eyes narrowed slightly as he took in the knots – “You’re a bluerider?” he asked, clearly questioning his ability to read the knots.

RE: 738.10.01 | Welcoming Committee - R'vi - 26.Jan.18

R'vi grinned at the boy's immediate belief that he was needed as a messenger. For a moment he considered leading him on, letting him think that was why he was wanted but R'vi didn't think that'd be very fair. He didn't want the kid to start doubting people coming to see him or to question the wrong rider who wouldn't have a sense of humour. He'd never live down the guilt of being the reason someone else got in trouble, especially with one of the heavy-handed men roaming around. Besides, this kid seemed so bright-eyed and innocent that he couldn't ruin that either.

"No, I don't need a messenger but you are correct on me being a bluerider," R'vi's grin turned into a more friendly smile as he watched the boy try to figure out his rank. He both loved and hated wearing the knots that showed his rank. He loved them because he'd always wanted to be a dragonrider since he was old enough to voice that desire so wearing them was a badge of honour and achievement. He hated them, though, because it meant he was dressed more formally than usual instead of in an unbuttoned shirt -- or no shirt at all! -- and it reminded him of the gap between his twin and him. He missed Nyvian terribly, even when they did get together it didn't feel the same anymore. They had both matured and found their own paths and R'vi hated it. He missed his brother and what they had and he hated that Nyvian didn't need him anymore, especially since he still felt like he needed his brother.

"Honestly, I'm not even from this Weyr," R'vi confessed with a laugh, brushing his hair from his eyes. "I came to visit some friends and R'nd told me about this bright new Candidate he brought in not too long ago and I wanted to say hi and see if there was anything I could do for you."

R'vi entered the room a bit more but made it very obvious he wasn't intending on invading the boy's space or even trapping him by keeping the door open and himself out of the way. "I'm R'vi, by the way. Rider of Vydoriath. I think he's socializing with Veeth, V'ler's blue, and Venseth, Indivara's blue, at the moment and yes, it is kind of ridiculous that there are so many Vs in all of our names." R'vi actually loved that fact and wondered if they should form a little club.
