He sat... And sat. He had arrived an hour before and been ushered to the stands where he sat waiting for these blasted eggs to hatch. Perhaps finding himself a ride to this strange southern Weyr had been a mistake. He found himself to be infinitely bored and quite out of place. Though the thought made him grimace, he couldn't help but think he should have allowed his wife to accompany him to watch this hatching. His first hatching and among strangers. Sure he knew, in passing, some of those from the north that had found themselves here as well but none he could or wanted to call friend.
The minutes ticked by as Raigan looked about. The grounds had filled with riders and dragons, candidates waited patiently and impatiently and the hums of the various flying creatures filled his ears. The fire lizards were interesting and he vowed to get him one or two and he found he was still slightly in awe of the massiveness of the Dragons that surrounded them. Not at all like the runner beasts he raised and trained, something entirely different.
The humming intensified, rattling his bones and Raigan shifted uncomfortably as he looked to the eggs. Finally they seemed to want to make an appearance. The Ambitious egg shook and rattled as a crack began to appear in the Forceful egg. A pop had Raigan on the edge of his seat as a foot suddenly appeared from the side of the Stable egg and was withdrawn so quickly the color could not be identified.
The gold rumbled low as a tiny green body was suddenly sitting where theAmbitious egg had stood. She creeled as she stood shaking egg goo and she'll bits from her tail, stomping around as kicked a foot towards another egg, barely missing the plain side. The Obsessive egg shuddered as the dragonet inside fought to rid itself of the shell that incased it and the Tantalizing egg began to split across the top. Raigan was sure this would be the next to hatch but it was another, Awkward , that's shell blew outward as its occupant tumbled free with its force.
Tantalizing 's occupant hissed as she popped the top of her shell much like the cork on a bottle and blinked at the sudden light. A wiggle of shoulders and the small green was free of her egg and running towards her sisters. Brakes did not work well as she bowled into the other two greens sending them tumbling into a group of boys. Eyes flashed rainbow and dragonets were led away among cheers from riders.
TheStable egg finally revealed a blue that made no bones about who he had chosen and the two were ushered away as the Forceful stomped his shell into tiny bits, Ichor from cuts to his paws coloring the sand around him. He kicked and shook, flinging shards and goo every which way as he growled and grumbled, sniffing boys here and there determined to find his perfect match.
Tantalizing sized up those boys present as the Obsessive made itself known with a tiny roar that promised bigger things to come. A screech rang out as a brown paw lashed out, catching the Forceful hatchling on the thigh. Shouts rang out and dragonets were separated to be moved away, more impressions made. Tantalizing took her time sniffing this boy and that. Rubbing along a thigh here and shoving a boy there. After what seemed hours the tiny green made her choice and her bright eyed boy led her to the waiting meat buckets.
