Talian watched numbly as Erisi's expression shifted to irritation, to horror, and finally to relief and maybe even warmth. Talian relaxed and let out a belabored sigh, inching closer to give his friend a gentle hug. "Thank you, Eri," he whispered. Erisi's words meant an awful lot to him, but he knew he would suck at actually trying to articulate it. Instead, he just let his words hang in the air, neatly underscored by a tightening of grip. He turned his head and gave Erisi a light kiss on the neck before peeling himself away, almost slithering backwards.
"I swear on Faranth, I didn't mean to upset you with my lousy mood," Talian murmured. He placed his hand over his pocket and paused for an uncomfortably long moment, considering the consequences of what he'd just done. He set his jaw and frowned.
Maybe it won't be necessary he thought, Erisi's kind words still fresh on his mind. Erisi really was the best friend he could ever ask for.
Was this really the right way?
He decided to think about it later. He hadn't made a decision yet, he just had supplies in case he needed them. That's all, he reminded himself. That's all.
His mood somewhat improved, he finally managed a smile. "What do you say we head back and get some lunch, Eri?" he asked hopefully.
