Ellaira thanked the woman who had helped her carry the food into one of the small rooms set up for scribing, studying, or perhaps as a general office, and started setting up the small lunch for herself and Jada. Warbler had delivered the message the evening before, and Ellaira was looking forward to spending more time with the young woman. Oddly enough, she found herself liking the goldrider; a strange position for a woman who usually felt bored around the 'fairer sex.' But Jada was a pleasure to be around, and Ellaira was willing to go out of her way to spend more time with her.
The blue firelizard pranced across the table, wings mantled out. He snorted at the covered basket of warm buns with obvious derision, before jumping up and winging haphazardly around the room to land on the back of one of the chairs. Warbler trilled a strange little set of notes, tilting his head to the side as Ellaira set out two plates with cutlery.
"No, it's not for you," she informed the fire-lizard. He meeped at her in response, wrapping his tail around a flower carved in relief on the chair. Northern work, that, Ellaira would be willing to bet. Either that or a very bored woodcarver with nothing better to make. "You won't even eat cooked food, you blue loon." Warbler warbled at her, making the beastcrafter roll her eyes. She lifted the lid off of a small box, revealing a huddle of several very unhappy hatchling tunnelsnakes.
The fire-lizard leapt from his perch in a moment, landing on the table with a skidding scrabble of claws. He neatly dispatched the first tunnelsnake, eating the thing whole and looking very much like a tunnelsnake himself, swallowing a small prey mammal. She made a wry face and continued setting out the lunch - sliced fresh fruit, thinly sliced summer sausage, crackers and cheese, and a pitcher of chilled rosehip tea. Everything tasty and light - perfect for a summer's day in the new turn, with the sun gleaming down through the window and birds singing outside. A lovely day indeed!
