A Luncheon for Two [Jada] - Ellaira - 12.Jan.13

Ellaira thanked the woman who had helped her carry the food into one of the small rooms set up for scribing, studying, or perhaps as a general office, and started setting up the small lunch for herself and Jada. Warbler had delivered the message the evening before, and Ellaira was looking forward to spending more time with the young woman. Oddly enough, she found herself liking the goldrider; a strange position for a woman who usually felt bored around the 'fairer sex.' But Jada was a pleasure to be around, and Ellaira was willing to go out of her way to spend more time with her.

The blue firelizard pranced across the table, wings mantled out. He snorted at the covered basket of warm buns with obvious derision, before jumping up and winging haphazardly around the room to land on the back of one of the chairs. Warbler trilled a strange little set of notes, tilting his head to the side as Ellaira set out two plates with cutlery.

"No, it's not for you," she informed the fire-lizard. He meeped at her in response, wrapping his tail around a flower carved in relief on the chair. Northern work, that, Ellaira would be willing to bet. Either that or a very bored woodcarver with nothing better to make. "You won't even eat cooked food, you blue loon." Warbler warbled at her, making the beastcrafter roll her eyes. She lifted the lid off of a small box, revealing a huddle of several very unhappy hatchling tunnelsnakes.

The fire-lizard leapt from his perch in a moment, landing on the table with a skidding scrabble of claws. He neatly dispatched the first tunnelsnake, eating the thing whole and looking very much like a tunnelsnake himself, swallowing a small prey mammal. She made a wry face and continued setting out the lunch - sliced fresh fruit, thinly sliced summer sausage, crackers and cheese, and a pitcher of chilled rosehip tea. Everything tasty and light - perfect for a summer's day in the new turn, with the sun gleaming down through the window and birds singing outside. A lovely day indeed!

Re: A Luncheon for Two [Jada] - Jada - 16.Jan.13

When Jada had been delivered an invitation to meet a friend for lunch, she had been ecstatic from the get-go. It was such a rare event, really! Jada's social calendar was full of non-social things, like teaching, and watching Tsereni, and visiting D'ren (and one man wasn't exactly social even when it was) and oiling firelizards. So many of the sharded little monsters, ever since Krypth had.... Eugh. So to be invited to join Ellaira for lunch was thrilling, and exciting, and not even a question. She'd replied with an immediate yes, and then sent Indivara a long-winded little note that exploded joy all over the place.

Indivara's reply to Jada had been acerbic, possibly written in the blood of innocents, and ended with 'have a good time.' At least, Jada noted, the girl's handwriting was improving. And all of the curse words had been correctly spelled. Beaming, Jada had pinned the note to the wooden board she kept in her hut, and went to sleep, dreaming of nubile lizards and chewing on sand.

The next morning, she had woken up and set a small goal for herself. She wanted to get a little something that would be a proper treat for herself and for Ellaira. So after much thinking, and much debating, she had finally picked her goal. But how to get a little bit of wine? It would be nice if she could just go and ask for it, but with everything else, the rumors would probably be everywhere by lunch that she was an alcoholic, and hated life. So instead, she went to someone else to acquire it.

R'nya. And that had been.... educational.

When she finally showed up for lunch, flushed and giddy with success, Whimsy was the first to pounce. Klah and Cocoa creeled in dismay as the little Gold flung herself towards the lunch basket, eyes whirling with food! Food! "No!" Jada gasped, and grabbed the Hatchling by her tail, dragging her back in. "Hi, Ellaira!" The wine was kept hidden as Jada surveyed the food being set out. "Oh, it looks lovely! How are you?" She reached out to embrace the other woman, always the friendly, huggy sort. Klah made a noise and dropped off Jada's shoulder, prowling towards the box of firelizard food, making a noise of greeting to Ellaira's blue.

Ellaira was almost finished setting up lunch when Jada arrived. It was Warbler who gave her the head's-up, shrieking an off-tune noise moments before Jada's own fire-lizards started vocalizing. The blue grabbed another tunnelsnake by the head and began devouring it in an equally snakelike manner as before, the hatchling creature writhing momentarily in the fire-lizard's throat before dying. Ellaira gave the blue an askance look before turning to greet her friend, a very real and happy smile lighting up her plain features.

"Jada! You came!" her delight was obvious, and she set down the pair of cups she was moving hastily and stepped forward to hug the other woman. Embraces weren't exactly her forte, but with Jada, it just felt natural to be exuberant. The young goldrider was a wellspring of joy, and in her company, Ellaira felt ebullient and free, as if she could shed some of the shackles which constrained her life at Katila. When she stepped back, she put her hands on her hips and surveyed the fair accompanying Jada.

"I'm doing quite well - but my goodness! You seem to have a collected quite a retinue!" She grinned and glanced over to where Klah was approaching a rather territorial Warbler. The blue made a muffled growling noise, the tail of his tunnelsnake hanging out of his mouth. "I suppose that explains why I got dire mutterings and--" Ellaira turned and whipped a napkin off of a wide bowl set to the side with a flourish-- "This!" Within were all sorts of things for the average fire-lizard: scraps of meat not fit for humans, both burned and raw, dead insects, and rolled balls of fish meal.

"Why don't you sit down, and we can have some lunch?" She added, pulling a chair out for Jada and walking around the table to her own. "I'm sure you've been quite busy, and I'm famished!"

Re: A Luncheon for Two [Jada] - Random Event - 02.Feb.13

Congratulations, you found a clue!

A pile of paperwork sits on an unoccupied desk in an adjacent room. Much of the paperwork stored in D’ren’s hut was removed when the hut was searched, so you are not surprised to see it stored here.

You can’t help but notice the Weyrleader’s signature on one of the pages that has fallen to the floor. It looks like passers-by have trampled it and kicked it all over the floor, so that it;s resting nearby. The form deals with the banning of a girl named Indivara from standing for Krypth’s first clutch. According to the report, she was punished for sneaking onto the sands in a previous hatching.

Come to think of it, Indivara was awfully vocal about her hatred for D’ren after that. She made no secret about it….
