In his usual fashion of over protective over brother, F’drel had been spending more time in Fort than he usually liked to since Ferra had gone over to the other Weyr to wait for the Hatching. It would be her first time Standing, and there was no way F’drel wasn’t going to hover nervously outside the Hatching Grounds to see how she was doing. It was also the first time any of the Candidates R’dal had Searched - including Ferra - were going to Stand, and the bluerider was very excited about it. And also very nervous about whether or not any of them would Impress. He didn’t seem convinced when F’drel reminded him that even if none of them Impressed R’nya wouldn’t revoke his Searchrider status, but R’dal could be unreasonable about these things. Still, F’drel and Halomirth felt a need to be there for them.
Then as if he and Halomirth didn’t have enough reasons to be loitering around the Hatching Sands during the Touching, they had a few Candidate friends Halomirth was very set on supporting, like Mylorah and Quinvalis. F’drel wanted to support them too, of course, but for anyone other than his sister he wouldn’t have felt a need to attend the Touching - the Hatching was the important part, after all - to do so. Miri, however, seemed to think it was a great idea, and while F’drel worried endlessly over Ferra, who was supposed to be in the second group to see the eggs and was waiting for the first group to finish with her brother, Halomirth excitedly waited to see more of her friends. She had been hanging out with Edath earlier, but a friend of his had called him over to another part of the bowl for a little while, and while socializing with other dragons was always appealing, Halomirth was, for once, more interested in something else. Namely waiting for one of her friends to finish with the Touching and come see her!
Oh! People were coming out! Ferra squeaked in excitement, hugged her brother, then dashed off to try to get into the Hatching Grounds as quickly as possible. F’drel watched her nervously, going through a mental list of all the possible ways things could go wrong. Halomirth sent some soothing feelings at him, knowing he would be on edge until he saw Ferra again. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a whole lot she could do other than send him reassuring feelings, so Halomirth wasn’t going to worry about it too much. Instead, she wiggled in excitement, looking for friends. She didn’t have to look very hard, because Quinvalis came right to her! With a happy hum she leaned into the hug Quinvalis gave her.
Quinvalis! she greeted him enthusiastically, trilling happily. Quinvalis is here! Halomirth gave F’drel a mental nudge, prompting him to turn from staring at where one of the Weyrlingmaster’s assistants was trying to organize the second group of Candidates.
“Hello, Quinvalis,” F’drel said, relaxing a fraction and even managing a smile for the Candidate. Ever since the summer Gather Miri had decided she was adopting Quinvalis, and spent a fair amount of the time the green pair was in Fort visiting with him. It was easy to see she adored him. F’drel liked him too, actually - Quinvalis’ constant worrying was relatable after all - and was glad spending time with Miri seemed to make him happy. And also with F’drel, kind of, but mostly Miri. F’drel was mostly decoration to their conversations, really.
He mentally winced when Quinvalis brought up Zeianth - it was hard for F’drel not to worry about just how much Miri liked the blue - and in the split second of hesitation Halomirth decided to answer the question.
No errands! And I haven’t seen Zeianth yet today, - another mental wince from F’drel - It’s F’drel’s sister’s first Touching! We came as moral support for her! And all our other friends. Like you! F’drel ended up just nodding, agreeing with Halomirth.
