741.01.09 | Surprise Visit - Qu'va - 06.Jan.20

Quinvalis’ emotions were a bit jumbled as he followed the crowd out of the Hatching area. For the most part, he liked this Touching but the thoughts of revenge on everyone lingered and he hated it. He was practically chanting that he was loved and that he loved, not hated, as he walked out and squinted up at the sun. It was a nice day out and maybe he’d volunteer to watch Rhaedalyn’s older girls that afternoon and play in the Bowl for a bit. That would help lift his mood.

Just like seeing a very familiar green dragon did. “Halomirth!” Quinvalis shouted her name happily and ran over to where she and F’drel lingered. He threw his arms around the dragon’s neck and clung tightly to her in his customary hug. She was one of the sweetest beings he’d ever know, dragon or human. She was kind, always listened, and offered gentle advice when it seemed he needed it, but mostly, they could just babble at each other about anything and he never felt judged.

Even F’drel didn’t intimidate him as much as the day at the Gather and he had warmed up to the greenrider. “Hi, F’drel,” he greeted the man, still clinging to Halomirth. He hadn’t quite gotten to the level of hugging F’drel as freely but the idea didn’t seem as far-fetched as it once did the more he got to know the man.

“I didn’t know you were coming today,” he finally released Halomirth and turned to address F’drel as it dawned on him that the timing probably just happened to line up with something else. He hadn’t told them about the Touching and hadn’t found the courage to ask them to come watch the Hatching yet either so it definitely was coincidence. “What crazy errand do they have you on today?”

Then he looked back at Halomirth, “or maybe you’re visiting your boyfriend Zeianth,” he teased with a little laugh. Halomirth saw every dragon has her boyfriend or at least a good friend but Quinvalis had been privy to some of her tales and she seemed to find Zeianth swoon-worthy more often than not.

RE: 741.01.09 | Surprise Visit - F'drel - 07.Jan.20

In his usual fashion of over protective over brother, F’drel had been spending more time in Fort than he usually liked to since Ferra had gone over to the other Weyr to wait for the Hatching. It would be her first time Standing, and there was no way F’drel wasn’t going to hover nervously outside the Hatching Grounds to see how she was doing. It was also the first time any of the Candidates R’dal had Searched - including Ferra - were going to Stand, and the bluerider was very excited about it. And also very nervous about whether or not any of them would Impress. He didn’t seem convinced when F’drel reminded him that even if none of them Impressed R’nya wouldn’t revoke his Searchrider status, but R’dal could be unreasonable about these things. Still, F’drel and Halomirth felt a need to be there for them.

Then as if he and Halomirth didn’t have enough reasons to be loitering around the Hatching Sands during the Touching, they had a few Candidate friends Halomirth was very set on supporting, like Mylorah and Quinvalis. F’drel wanted to support them too, of course, but for anyone other than his sister he wouldn’t have felt a need to attend the Touching - the Hatching was the important part, after all - to do so. Miri, however, seemed to think it was a great idea, and while F’drel worried endlessly over Ferra, who was supposed to be in the second group to see the eggs and was waiting for the first group to finish with her brother, Halomirth excitedly waited to see more of her friends. She had been hanging out with Edath earlier, but a friend of his had called him over to another part of the bowl for a little while, and while socializing with other dragons was always appealing, Halomirth was, for once, more interested in something else. Namely waiting for one of her friends to finish with the Touching and come see her!

Oh! People were coming out! Ferra squeaked in excitement, hugged her brother, then dashed off to try to get into the Hatching Grounds as quickly as possible. F’drel watched her nervously, going through a mental list of all the possible ways things could go wrong. Halomirth sent some soothing feelings at him, knowing he would be on edge until he saw Ferra again. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a whole lot she could do other than send him reassuring feelings, so Halomirth wasn’t going to worry about it too much. Instead, she wiggled in excitement, looking for friends. She didn’t have to look very hard, because Quinvalis came right to her! With a happy hum she leaned into the hug Quinvalis gave her.

Quinvalis! she greeted him enthusiastically, trilling happily. Quinvalis is here! Halomirth gave F’drel a mental nudge, prompting him to turn from staring at where one of the Weyrlingmaster’s assistants was trying to organize the second group of Candidates.

“Hello, Quinvalis,” F’drel said, relaxing a fraction and even managing a smile for the Candidate. Ever since the summer Gather Miri had decided she was adopting Quinvalis, and spent a fair amount of the time the green pair was in Fort visiting with him. It was easy to see she adored him. F’drel liked him too, actually - Quinvalis’ constant worrying was relatable after all - and was glad spending time with Miri seemed to make him happy. And also with F’drel, kind of, but mostly Miri. F’drel was mostly decoration to their conversations, really.

He mentally winced when Quinvalis brought up Zeianth - it was hard for F’drel not to worry about just how much Miri liked the blue - and in the split second of hesitation Halomirth decided to answer the question.

No errands! And I haven’t seen Zeianth yet today, - another mental wince from F’drel - It’s F’drel’s sister’s first Touching! We came as moral support for her! And all our other friends. Like you! F’drel ended up just nodding, agreeing with Halomirth.

Quinvalis smiled at the pair and their kindness. Of course they wanted to come to support F'drel's sister. Oh crap! "I forgot! Ferra, right? I'm so sorry, F'drel. I should have looked for her sooner and introduced myself. I could have shown her around for you and made sure she was comfortable here." He was such a failure. Halomirth had told him about F'drel's sisters moving to Ista Weyr and that Ferra could Stand if she wanted to and he even remembered thinking how nice it would be to meet them all sometime. Well, he had his chance for one of them and then blew it. Not that it was entirely lost. She would still be around the Weyr until the Hatching or longer if she Impressed.

"It should go fine, though," he continued, trying to smile despite how spaced out he had gotten about Ferra. "The eggs seem pretty calm, like usual for Aradissicath. I didn't touch many but they were nice. Mostly." He mumbled the last word, still hating that vengeful egg. He knew he'd never hurt anyone but it still scared him to know that the dragonet thought he was capable of such dark things.

"Anyway! Are you going to wait for her here?" Quinvalis wanted to sit with them if they were but he also didn't want to flat out ask if he could. Halomirth wouldn't mind but he didn't want to impose, especially if they had someone else coming to visit for a while. The pair were pretty popular so he'd understand if they had to move on.

RE: 741.01.09 | Surprise Visit - F'drel - 08.Jan.20

“Don’t worry about it,” F’drel said, shaking his head. “R’dal insisted on giving her a tour as soon as she arrived.”

And we’ve been here practically every day since! Halomirth added cheerfully. Really, it was a bit much how worried F’drel was about his sister, but Halomirth figured if they were at Fort, even if just visiting R’dal, it would be better than letting her rider pace his weyr forever.

The reassurance that the Touching was going as expected made F’drel let out an imperceptible sigh of relief. He’d been a little worried after Thallyath’s, despite, logically, knowing the disastrousness of it was probably something to do with that one Clutch and its specific circumstances. The one Touching he’d attended had been fine. F’drel didn’t remember anyone crying, at least. Ferra would be fine. Most likely. Quinvalis had said ‘mostly,’ after all...

“Yeah, we were planning on waiting,” F’drel confirmed. “You’re welcome to stay if you like.” Halomirth nodded enthusiastically. It wasn’t like F’drel was going anywhere, not until Ferra came back. If he went anywhere it might make it difficult for her to find him. Miri had decided to stay with him, instead of visiting with friends. He was pretty sure she could probably be tempted off by any the right blue, but so far she hadn’t been and F’drel was always happy to have the company of his dragon. And Quinvalis wasn’t bad company either.

“Do you want to talk about how it went?” F’drel asked, giving Quinvalis the opportunity to talk about the Touching if he wanted. Miri would enthuse over anything he said, and F’drel could try to focus on whatever the conversation was instead of worrying over Ferra. Or at least worrying a little less.

RE: 741.01.09 | Surprise Visit - Qu'va - 08.Jan.20

Oh, right, duh. Of course F'drel would have had someone else look after Ferra if he couldn't do it himself. R'dal made sense since the bluerider was not only the one that Searched Ferra but was also a good friend to the green pair. Quinvalis liked him, he was always so happy and nothing seemed to keep him down. He liked that about the man, even if it did tire him out sometimes if he happened to be around him too long. But boy did he wish he could be that outgoing and carefree.

"Sure," Quinvalis nodded at the invite to stay, happy to do so. Since the day would be filled with the Touching, Candidates essentially had it off, able to do what they wanted within the Weyr. His only plan was to go look after R'nya's kids for him at some point but that could wait since they had other helpers for that as well.

As to the Touching itself, Quinvalis waffled a bit. He wanted to but he was afraid to as well. Even the good eggs were embarrassing to bring up to someone else now that he thought about it but he could possibly gloss over it and know F'drel wouldn't press for more details. "I had a couple of great eggs. One was so relaxing and it felt like I was floating in a calm lake without any worries. Another one just wanted to point out..." His cheeks flushed as he looked down at his boots as he got hit by that embarrassment he wanted to avoid. While he said F'drel wouldn't push, that cliffhanger likely would get a reaction, especially from the curious dragon he was leaning against.

"...that I'm loved."
