Can’t we just skip the bath and go back for an oiling? Erebuth whined, staring doubtfully at the water. Oiling is so much nicer he added wistfully.
“You know that the sooner we start, the sooner we can go back to the weyr and have a nice long oiling,” B’kit reminded the blue. The weyrling had grown a little bit over the past few weeks but was still small enough to carry. B’kit crouched and opened his arms, and the reluctant dragon let himself be picked up and carried into the shallows.
Erebuth grumbled as he was lowered into the sun-warmed water. “You don’t see Dyoriath or Zezeth fussing about their baths,” his rider chided gently as he began to gently scrub off flaky bits of skin.
We could have a bath in our weyr. We have water there. Kitt sighed as he figured out what was really bothering the blue, who normally loved baths. He stroked his dragon’s neck, feeling him tremble slightly. “It’s good to get out in the fresh air. We’ve been cooped up inside too much. Besides, it’s good for people to see us; to see how strong you’re becoming. We won’t be out long,” he reassured Erebuth, resuming the bath. Humming a soothing song, he felt his dragon slowly relax despite the eyes on them.
