Rhaedalyn was still smiling and riding the high from dancing so much. She really enjoyed it and found she didn’t get to do it much in such a setting. Sure, she danced around her little office and weyr when doing tasks and humming to herself and she danced at the celebrations for Hatchings, but she felt like the Weyr didn’t nearly have enough parties with music just because the week had ended or someone reached an important milestone. Then again, maybe there were smaller parties celebrating such events but they were among friends or large groups that didn’t involve the Weyrleader and Weyrwoman. That was more likely and a bit depressing. She wasn’t keen on the idea that there was a barrier between her and everyone else now because she held a title, especially when her work could be done by anyone and wasn’t nearly as important as many of the lower cavern workers’ jobs.
She wouldn’t dwell on such thoughts right then, though! R’nya was in just as wonderful a mood as she was and she didn’t want him to worry about her or think a Holder had said something to her. She hadn’t missed the way he made sure she was always included in conversations or was given the same amount of respect as he was. Everyone assumed she was dumb or ditzy—and sometimes they were right, she could admit that—but she really did pay attention and understood a lot more going on around her than most thought.
The drink was accepted with a smile and anticipation for the cool liquid to quench her thirst and Rhaedalyn gave a content sigh after a moment. Dancing was quite a workout and she enjoyed the break, sipping the juice and watching everyone else have a good time. She spotted some Ista dragonriders that had stayed at Fort for a while during the heat wave and laughed at how much fun they were having, so happy that everyone was getting along and enjoying themselves after so much heartache. The fires had been hard on everyone but the heat and drought that had killed a lot of crops even before that had been devastating and she hoped that region could recover quickly. It actually was one of the reasons she felt they needed another Weyr open. Their population was growing rapidly again so they would need more space and Ista couldn’t properly support what they currently had. It only made sense they look to High Reaches or Benden for that needed space and supplies.
That was something else to further consider later on as the Harpers moved into another song and R’nya announced his love for it. “We shall!” Rhaedalyn set her drink down and merrily followed her mate back to the dance square. She’d be quite content to just dance for the rest of the night and she hoped that wish would come true. She wasn’t blind to the benefits of schmoozing for political benefits, but this was a party meant to celebrate and that’s what she wanted to do.
