740.01.19 | Date Night - Rhaedalyn - 27.Jan.19

Rhaedalyn laughed as was twirled around before being led into the next steps that had them skipping around in a small circle with other couples. Everyone knew R'nya as a stoic leader that quite possibly didn't have a sense of humour or know what fun was. She'd always known better and would always cherish the afternoon spent picking flowers and picking on R'nya with Khaleena. He had made sure they knew he had humour and could even skip. She'd always liked him but reflecting back on all the days he spent looking after her and the other Golden Girls, Rhaedalyn suspected that may have been the day where she started to feel more for the bronzerider but continued to ignore it for whatever silly reason she had at the time.

But now everyone knew he could dance and even smile, though she imagined they knew he could smile thanks to how easily it was for her to make him laugh or crack a smile even when they were in the dining cavern. Happiness looked great on R'nya and Rhaedalyn held her head a little higher knowing she was the cause of it. Well, their five girls certainly contributed to his happiness but they weren't there, having been left behind with Madiquel and Quinvalis looking after them so mom and dad could have a date night away from all their responsibilities. She didn't realise how much she needed this time away from the kids and the Weyr itself until they landed at the Hold.

"I like this," Rhaedalyn commented vaguely as the song started to come to a close. She reached her free hand--the other was still in R'nya's as they prepared for the ending twirl and hold pose--and brushed her fingers down his cheek, smiling. "You look relaxed and like you might actually be having fun." With another laugh, Rhaedalyn initiated the spin and rested her head back against his chest as they came to an ending pose of her back against his front. She applauded enthusiastically for the band, appreciating their skills and ability to make all cares go away. Perhaps they needed to have such dates away from the Weyr a bit more frequently. Maybe once a month as she felt a weekly excursion was pushing it, at least until Vadira and Rajlyn were a bit older and could handle such things.

RE: 740.01.19 | Date Night - R'nya - 29.Jan.19

R’nya grinned in response to Rhaedalyn’s laughter, leading her through the motions of the dance with an easy grace. While he expected Rhaedalyn could or would guess as much, R’nya had never actually told anyone how much he enjoyed dancing, but he loved dancing with Rhaedalyn. She was such a ray of pure joy, her easy laughter and bright expression. R’nya kissed her on the cheek when the opportunity was presented to them between moves, laughing softly as they skipped around, bouncing to the rhythm of the music that was being played.

“Sacrilege,” R’nya teased, grinning once more when Rhaedalyn laughed and he spun her through to the closing move of the dance, enjoying the view and the warm familiarity of her hand in his. As she dropped his hand to applause, R’nya dropped his own to warp gently around her waist, nuzzling Rhaedalyn’s neck and pressing an affectionate kiss against the edge of her jaw, just below her ear. Chuckling lowly against her ear, R’nya stepped back and offered her his hand as the band started up for another dance; “Come, my love, I need a drink.” He smiled as he led her gently to the edge of the room where tables were laid out with foods and drinks of all types.

Filling two glasses with cold juice, R’nya handed Rhaedalyn one and took a sip from his own, resisting the urge to gulp it all down greedily. How many dances had they had? It couldn’t have been more than two, maybe three, but R’nya was immensely pleased he had eaten very little for lunch, knowing they’d be spending the evening indulging in the Hold. Sipping his drink again, R’nya watched Rhaedalyn with soft eyes; her gown was gorgeous – she’d rendered him absolutely speechless when he’d first seen her in it – and he’d seen more than one of the Holders at the party give his mate the once (or more!) over.

If he were honest with himself, R’nya was both surprised, but also not surprised, by his lack of jealousy. The security he felt in Rhaedalyn’s love for him humbled him. None the less, he had played at teasing the Holders it by pointedly introducing her as ‘Lady Rhaedalyn, Weyrwoman of Fort,’ to anyone that stopped to chat to him, even interrupting their conversations to make sure his mate was introduced and then staring pointedly to make sure she was given her respectful dues. He found their expressions entertaining. Some, such as the young Lord who was hosting the party, had taken it in stride, but R’nya had found more than a few who were put out by it. Once upon a time, R’nya knew he was in that group, but Rhaedalyn, and five beautiful girls, had done a rather thorough job of proving to him just how wonderful his mate and their daughters were.

Not that he’d be letting any of their girls Impress anything but gold – and that was only if he couldn’t keep them all off the Sands entirely.

“Oh, I like this song,” R’nya said suddenly, setting his half-glass of juice down and lifting his eyebrows invitingly at Rhaedalyn. “Shall we?”

RE: 740.01.19 | Date Night - Rhaedalyn - 02.Feb.19

Rhaedalyn was still smiling and riding the high from dancing so much. She really enjoyed it and found she didn’t get to do it much in such a setting. Sure, she danced around her little office and weyr when doing tasks and humming to herself and she danced at the celebrations for Hatchings, but she felt like the Weyr didn’t nearly have enough parties with music just because the week had ended or someone reached an important milestone. Then again, maybe there were smaller parties celebrating such events but they were among friends or large groups that didn’t involve the Weyrleader and Weyrwoman. That was more likely and a bit depressing. She wasn’t keen on the idea that there was a barrier between her and everyone else now because she held a title, especially when her work could be done by anyone and wasn’t nearly as important as many of the lower cavern workers’ jobs.

She wouldn’t dwell on such thoughts right then, though! R’nya was in just as wonderful a mood as she was and she didn’t want him to worry about her or think a Holder had said something to her. She hadn’t missed the way he made sure she was always included in conversations or was given the same amount of respect as he was. Everyone assumed she was dumb or ditzy—and sometimes they were right, she could admit that—but she really did pay attention and understood a lot more going on around her than most thought.

The drink was accepted with a smile and anticipation for the cool liquid to quench her thirst and Rhaedalyn gave a content sigh after a moment. Dancing was quite a workout and she enjoyed the break, sipping the juice and watching everyone else have a good time. She spotted some Ista dragonriders that had stayed at Fort for a while during the heat wave and laughed at how much fun they were having, so happy that everyone was getting along and enjoying themselves after so much heartache. The fires had been hard on everyone but the heat and drought that had killed a lot of crops even before that had been devastating and she hoped that region could recover quickly. It actually was one of the reasons she felt they needed another Weyr open. Their population was growing rapidly again so they would need more space and Ista couldn’t properly support what they currently had. It only made sense they look to High Reaches or Benden for that needed space and supplies.

That was something else to further consider later on as the Harpers moved into another song and R’nya announced his love for it. “We shall!” Rhaedalyn set her drink down and merrily followed her mate back to the dance square. She’d be quite content to just dance for the rest of the night and she hoped that wish would come true. She wasn’t blind to the benefits of schmoozing for political benefits, but this was a party meant to celebrate and that’s what she wanted to do.
