Talian patiently prepared his tools and some numbweed salve while Aparicus drank at her tea. Much to his delight, she finished the drink quickly and was soon showing it's effects. The healer felt a bit guilty; he didn't like to deceive people and he hated to think that his actions might be upsetting to her, but he simply couldn't have her leaving that wound untreated or even worse, trying to stitch it herself! She needed proper medical care.
"Aparicus," Talian said as he walked closer. He didn't touch her yet. He eyed her closely, watching for changes in her body language. Her speech was already heavily slurred. Good!
"I've given you a sedative. You should be feeling calm and a little bit distant right now," he offered soothingly. "It's perfectly natural and you won't come to any harm. Unfortunatly, stitches are still necessary. I'm going to have to wash your wound and close it for you."
He inched just a little closer, but he made sure the undoubtedly dazed woman could see him clearly. "Listen, Aparicus. I know you don't like to be touched. I don't know why, but the Weyrleader made it very clear that I am never to touch you unless necessary. I want you to understand something."
He held his hands up,trying to display his harmlessness. "My father used to beat me, Aparicus. He was a very cruel man. I can understand why some people dont like to be touched. But I am a healer, and you are badly injured. You need to be taken care of. You have my word that I won't hurt you, though."
With that, he set his tools neatly aside and moved in to gently take her shoulders and push her down on the table. He had a couple attendants waiting outside to run in and help if need be, but hopefully it wouldn't come to that. He really didn't want to have to hold her down forcibly. He was expecting some wiggling, but that was about it.
"Please trust me."
