Bordtai knew it was wrong when the greenrider referred to D’ren as the Weyrleader when S’kef had assumed the position, but the young boy couldn’t help but be terribly confused by that whole situation as well. As far as he understood, to be Weyrleader your dragon had to win the senior queen. Sure Nirinath had not flown for some time… but that just meant the Weyrleadership shouldn’t have changed either as far as he understood.
The boy heard the man’s words about both the older Weyrleader as well as the Healer, but he didn’t miss that B’jin said the words with a frown. Did that frown mean that B’jin was not yet convinced? And if the greenrider wasn’t convinced, should he be convinced himself? That frown on the greenrider’s face only reassured Bordtai that he had made the right decision to avoid the little creatures so far. The last thing the young boy wanted was to ruin his chance at having a future that consisted of more than just dodging bullies.
While Bordtai was not surprised about some folks in the Weyr still being untrustful of the little lizards, the boy found himself caught off guard when the green spoke up with the idea of eating them. He had to blink at her and her rider for a moment before a grin spread across his face. “Well everyone who has one might not like it, but it would stop them from bringing the plague back wouldn’t it?”
Grinning at the green, he added, “If I ever find an egg, I’ll bring it to you and we’ll have eggs and toast together. I don’t want my dragon to ever get sick.”
