"Kora! Kora, get back here!"
Emerald green Kora, as she was learning was her name, was far too interested in chasing down the bug she had found because it was a BUG! She had to CATCH IT! And it didn't matter that she was flying dangerously close to other humans' heads, or that she had knocked over a glass of water, or that she was making a beeline for places she definitely shouldn't be going, she had. to catch. THE BUG!
She was, of course, COMPLETELY oblivious to her own, scrawny Ereben, trying to catch her before she caused even more chaos.
"Kora!"
Yeah, getting a firelizard was definitely a mistake. In the few days since Kora had hatched, she had been an utter nightmare of an addition to Ereben's life. Sure, she came right back to him when she was hungry but other than that, she had to explore EVERYTHING. More than once, Ereben had gotten an earful from someone about how she had gotten somewhere she wasn't supposed to be, as though Ereben had told her to go there or something.
Could he...return a firelizard? Like, give it back? Or was he stuck with her forever?
"Shard it, Kora," he muttered as he watched her spiral up after the bug. "It's just a stupid bug, you stupid firelizard. Quit chasing it." Or catch it! Whatever! Just be done with causing whatever current chaos she was on so that maybe Ereben wouldn't get chewed out.
Kora let out a terribly cute squealing sound of triumph as she snagged the bug in her claws.
Victorious, she reappeared in front of Ereben, proudly displaying her prize. "Yeah, congrats, you caught a stupid bug," Ereben muttered. He held out his arm for her to land. "Now can you stop being a pest? Ew, don't eat it on me!" Too late. Crunch, crunch, gone, with little bug bits on his arm for her to clean up. Which she did. "Gross. Dammit, Kora, why are you so...you?"
Kora chirped, cocked her head, chirped again. Like she was asking a question back. "Never mind," Ereben muttered. "Just...stop being a pain, okay? You got the stupid bug so now behave." Kora chirped, climbed up his arm to his shoulder, and became the poster girl image of a perfectly behaved firelizard.
That would last for about an hour but Ereben would take it.
