While the brothers played, Ch’es contemplated drowning. At the very least, he ducked his head under the water for a moment as if the cooler temperatures could chase away the heat in his face. It had become more than clear to him that nudity was different in Weyrs than in the Holds. That held even more true for Ch’es who had spent the majority of his time away from any society, low or otherwise. Getting used to it was a painful lesson of exposure for the freckled teen. He’d managed fine with Sironar, but they were close friends. It seemed different!
I’m not drawing comparisons! Even the suggestion that he’d been looking had him turning away and hiding his face in his hands. His cheeks burned as if roasted by the sun! Pardrith translated between growls as he traded pounces with Oncaeth.
He lived alone in the woods, the dragonet added. It’s a different way of living than here. And it was part of why he’d chosen him! Ch’es had a different perspective than others. He knew how to survive tough odds and make it on his own. Not many had that strength. Pardrith had learned that humans were meant to be social creatures. His boy just needed a bit more help in that regard.
Wanting some distance now as if he could pull away from the conversation altogether, Ch’es swam out to deeper water where the depths cooled the water even more. With how hot his face felt from embarrassment, a bucket of ice would serve him better.
