“It’s not you and I’m fine,” mostly. But it wasn’t Geric’s fault, it was hers. She had to stop trying to fit in where she knew she didn’t belong. She loved living in the Weyrs, even loved living in Katila, but sometimes being fancy and going to parties with a gorgeous lordling was fun and exciting and the thought of attending a play with the Master Harper that wrote it was equally so. But neither areas were a true part of her world and her mannerisms and somewhat brash personality showed that again. And she thought she had toned down her personality but still made a Holder faint from panic over dealing with her. She wanted to laugh but didn’t want to insult Geric further with more misunderstandings.
It was a good thing she hadn’t laughed when Geric started talking about the letter. Was he having his own affair? With Lord Igen? Some of the gossip Tazikel had told her did align with this idea and it put his reaction into a whole new light. If only he knew the things she had gotten Gangleri to do. “Your brother is very open-minded. My being in your home is proof of that. He won’t judge you, Geric.” Everyone else probably would from what she knew of the Holds but screw them. Her fire was coming back and the determination to not let the haters win was strong and she took Geric’s hand in hers and gave it a squeeze in solidarity. They could be outsiders and secret lovers together. Only not actually together. Although he was cute. And just like his brother by calling her young.
Mylorah rolled her eyes but she was smiling brightly again, mostly thanks to knowing her letters made Gangleri smile. “I’m twenty-two,” she replied, politely leaving out that she was fairly certain Habraxel was even older than Gangleri and Geric seemed to be close to her age so he didn’t have much room to point out age differences. But she wasn’t upset over it and found it amusing since she had finally gotten the Master Harper to acknowledge her as a grown adult—though sometimes she couldn’t help but throw in a little teasing comment about him being old.
