Mylorah wanted to protest and ask not to be left alone with Geric again. It felt like Gangleri was punishing his brother for what she had done but she was also the guest in their home so she stayed quiet and continued to be so as she followed Geric down to the washroom. This visit was going horribly, though it was going as well as Gaili had teased her it would go. He didn’t think meeting her fancy lover’s family was one her best ideas but it had been Gangleri’s so that had to count for something. She had been excited about the dinner and play, just doing normal things, because she knew they had chemistry together but wanted to know more about the Master Harper as a person; as a friend. She wanted to meet new people and have a so-called normal interaction. Sex had never even factored into what she hoped would come of the night. She just really wasn’t cut out for any part of the Holder life.
At least Geric had the courage to look at himself in the mirror. Mylorah couldn’t face herself. She didn’t want to see how close to tears she was over upsetting Geric and possibly ruining a nice dinner and didn’t even want to know what she looked like in a proper dress and trying so hard. The only mirror she had was a small hand held one that was a little cloudy and while she knew Casa had large ones and wouldn’t mind her popping in, Mylorah didn’t want to work herself up more than she already had been by fretting too much over her appearance. Maybe she should have. Maybe the dark blue dress would have been better. It had the more appropriate neckline but was actually a little bit shorter than her current dress. Maybe she should just calm down and stop assuming everyone would want to be friends at first glance. She’d all but been told directly that she would scare Geric yet she still skipped into his room like they were old friends and poked her nose into his business and judged him because she assumed he was judging her.
As Geric moved over a little for her to reach the basin, Mylorah gave him a weak half smile in answer for the gesture. She didn’t trust herself to talk, at least not until he asked a direct question and head shakes wouldn’t work. “I didn’t tell him anything about the letter,” she replied, voice barely above a whisper as she lathered up her hands and then rinsed them off. But when he asked if they could start over and he reintroduced himself, the smile grew a little more and some of the light returned to her. “Nice to meet you, Geric. I’m Mylorah, Gangleri’s friend.” She owed him an apology but didn’t want to ruin the moment by lingering on the past they were apparently going to pretend didn’t happen so instead she was lame and mentioned dinner smelled good and stepped aside so Geric could lead them to the table.
