After a few more pulled weeds and a single ripe tomato, S'far glanced up to see what Chir was going on about. He tilted his head as he watched the boy grab a pouch and then dip it in a jar of oil. "Interesting. So you think the leather could work. I suppose it is skin. Or used to be. I'm not sure if the tanning process would make it react differently to whatever that poison was, but getting some hide and leaving it untreated but dry could still work."
He chuckled and stood up, reaching out to slap Chir firmly on the back after handing him the last of the weeds, tomato still carefully clutched in his other hand. "See, much easier than trying to become a one man oil supplier. Sometimes we have to take a step back from our own initial impulses, take a moment and consider options and how feasible they are. I'm glad that you're wanting to help though." He hadn't even realized that the young man had met K'dar yet, though he wasn't too surprised. The two had some similarities after all, they enjoyed the outdoors, and both seemed to have a protective streak.
Hopefully that wouldn't get either of them killed. A mottled green firelizard popped into view, carefully landing on a nearby fencepost as it chirped and trilled. "If you don't have a letter for me, go on then. Shoo." It promptly flew off, and an image of squash filled his head. "Oh, right I was going to clear the other row for squash... come on, Chir. You can help with that. Oh and... hm. Maybe I can deliver this tomato to Mul-" the flitter popped back in and chirped. "Ah, never mind." He held the tomato out to the green who very carefully took it before disappearing again.
With that out of the way he headed to where he stored his gardening tools and supplies, grabbing a hoe, shovel, and little jar of labeled seeds. "Have you ever had a garden before? Sironar's mother had one, it was quite handy while we were in exile." S'far took a moment to show Chir how to get the earth turned and prepared for the row before handing the tools over and letting the boy handle the rest of it. "It's dirty work, but good for relaxing. Plant your bullshit in the ground to fertilize the plants. Was there anything else you wanted to try and learn to do in the Weyr? Any goals you've discovered for yourself?" He'd had some time to research the boy and discovered that Chironhes really didn't have much of anything back in his Hold, but maybe since relocating to the Weyr he'd picked up a few new interests. "See if you can write it in the dirt. If not I'll figure some way to interpret I'm sure."
