Chir gave a confident nod to Sironar when he asked if he was going to keep the name. Chirp was one of several they'd come up with together and he found it suited the little fire lizard considering it was the first sound she'd made upon hatching. Even now, she let out little purrs and chirps as she snoozed, clearly content while he ran the oiled rag in his hand over her body.
He glanced over as Siro pointed out he could maybe pet Fancy now, but true to form, the blue fire lizard scampered out of reach, earning Chir's snort of amusement. One day! Though, now with Chirp in his life, he felt far less inclined to put as much effort into the endeavor. What if she got jealous?!
It was hard to disagree with Siro's point on it being a shame he couldn't have her speak for him. But there were plenty of dragons around and most of them had been polite in translating for him so far. But she was also a newly hatched baby! Putting any expectations on her was already too much.
The idea of a hike, later on, perked him up though. Chir had spent so much of his time within the Weyr that he was eager to get back into nature. Already, he could see his new friend hitching a ride on his shoulders or investigating her way into fallen trees or rooting through fox sets. But no hunting on this trip. He didn't even need the reminder when he could so easily bring up the image of Siro passing out in the baths. Still, he'd bring his knife along just in case. The last thing they needed was to be caught by a wherry unawares with no means to defend themselves. There'd be a lot more blood for Siro to handle without one.
