Why did it all have to go so wrong? She had been enjoying the Hatching only minutes before, smiling or giggling at the antics of the hatchlings and the way they Impressed. But now the gold was out and while it should have been a joyous moment and perhaps even one filled with hope and giving her nervous butterflies in her stomach, it was a nightmare. The sweet little girl was beautiful and seemed utterly perfect. Any girl would be lucky to bond with her but there was only one that was meant to be with her and... she wasn't there.
Mylorah clutched at her head, trying to block out the screeching though just as much was directly in her head. Her heart was breaking with every cry and tears started to fall as it all fell into place. "She's looking for Kat," Mylorah whispered, choking on her friend's name. Four other women had also died but she knew. She knew this was the dragon her friend had been destined to meet and live a wonderfully fabulous life with as they teased all the bronze boys out there. Katiryn had so many dreams and goals and for all that she came across as ditzy or shallow, she was also determined. Mylorah never doubted Katiryn would end up as a goldrider with the man she wanted at her side.
When the little gold got into a fight with the bronze, Mylorah gasped and her hands moved to cover her mouth. Everything was going horribly wrong! She cried out when the pair of hatchlings finally vanished, sealing their fate and making it known without a doubt that the gold's intended mate wasn't among them. The silence that followed was broken only by some sobbing, some of it her own.
She quickly turned and threw her arms around Zoremet, burying her face into the crook of his neck. She held on tight, needing her brother's comforting touch to help keep her upright and perhaps attempt to steady herself once more. Mylorah could only silently sob into the ugly robe as she thought about how perfect that pair would have been together. She tried once to say that but the words wouldn't come out and she continued to hold her brother even after the tears stopped and she turned her head just enough to see what the commotion was about with the remaining eggs.
Mylorah did her best to smile and watch the remaining Impressions and her heart went out to each of them that Impressed after such a sight but she couldn't help but feel relieved when she and her brothers were left alone after it was all said and done. It was awful of her but she couldn't imagine being a part of the clutch that was supposed to have a gold that couldn't find her rider and took a bronze out with her. Constant memories of Katiryn were already haunting her and she wouldn't be able to handle knowing her friend should have been there beside her on that journey.
"Let's go see our bronzely brothers for a minute and then I think I need to go lie down for a while."
