Oh dear. V'lia couldn't be sure but it seemed like there was a lot more going on with the man than just getting knocked over. It was tempting to follow his grumbling, to get up, walk away, and leave him alone as requested but what type of person would that make her? She'd be no better than D'hys and the way he barely even acknowledged the existence of the man trying to fold himself into the floor and wall. She had never been the type to leave alone someone in need and it wasn't going to start now either.
Twisting around, V'lia plunked herself down beside the man, straightening her legs out in front of her and arranging her dress so it sat prettily and covered what it should. Her basket had been set down on her free side and her hands now folded in her lap as she smiled at her new companion. "No, I think I'll stay a bit. This seems like a nice stretch of hall for making friends. I'm V'lia or you can call me Vess, most of my friends do." It was odd having an honorific and while it was pretty, she was still accustomed to her old name and had no desire to make anyone change what they liked to call her.
"May I ask your name? Are you a Candidate or new to the Weyr?" His mannerisms made her think he was new and overwhelmed by the change from Hold to Weyr but he also seemed a bit familiar. V'lia had been doing her best over the last several months to reconnect with people and mingle and make new friends but she was fairly certain she hadn't met this man. That was all right, they met now and she was determined to befriend and help him.
