Semath crooned in delight as so many young greens hatched so early. She knew it wasn’t considered the best omen by the riders, but she loved all the little green hatchlings and watching them find their mates like she’d found her L’gan. As with any Hatching, his heart was in his throat to some degree, ready and waiting to attend to injuries. Luckily this hatching seemed to be starting tame, compared to some of the others, though he knew it was still just the beginning.
There was a bit of chaos as seven—seven!—greens suddenly burst onto the sands. Candidates scrambled to make space or get out of the way of the determined dragonets, and a few tumbled to the ground. Dashing over to check on them, he was relieved to find them all jittery but unharmed other than their pride. He flashed a quick sign to the Weyrwoman that all was well.
Headed back to his post, feeling almost relaxed, he blanched as Semath relayed the news that the watchdragon no doubt had shared with the Weyrleaders simultaneously. Healers were needed outside urgently; Erebuth and B’kit had tumbled from the sky after a lightning strike. Cursing himself for thinking a hatching could ever go smoothly and jinxing the whole thing, he made sure enough of those Weyr folk trained at the hall were present to deal with anything on the Sands, then sprinted off to help.
