The call came during dinner, and having just finished, Aederyn made quick work of changing and tying her hair back. Grabbing the robe gifted to her by her brother at Gather those months ago, she bounded across the bowl, only stopping in the blustering storm to wave a few other new candidates along toward the Sands.
She left the pale green robe out of the way to one side of the entrance to the grounds, not needing it in the warmth, and commanded Rudi to stand watch over it. The little brown chirped and snuggled in the fabric, eyes whirling with excitement.
Weaving among the other candidates, Aederyn took up a post somewhere near one of the eggs she thought she had touched earlier, waving to R'dal up in the stands. It was good to see him here, cheering everyone on! The humming grew louder and more intense, the air of anticipation heavy. Finally, after what seemed to be both an eternity and an instant, an egg cracked! Hope filled her chest and stole her breath as she allowed herself to believe she might Impress, though dread lingered, too…what if she didn’t? She watched each new baby as they moved toward their life mates, cheering internally when each made Impression, happy for her fellow candidates, and hoping that a hatchling would find her, too.
