"Mm, you really should," she said quietly, a soft smile lighting her face up. "They have some of the best vines on Pern."
Zahrah sat neatly, ankles locked and her knees slightly swept to the side, her arms leaning against the table, thinking of her daughter's expression when she saw the little gift. Her dark hair curling and a little wild from play, her shining eyes, the way she'd tell the day like it was a secret thing between the two of them.
"She's a brilliant little thing," Zahrah said, her voice gentle. "I got her a bracelet with a flight firelizards on it. Zarel is mad for them. Ours, well, mine, Shard, is at home keeping an eye on her but she's in creche, so he's not the only one. I told her to wait until she's a Candidate, then she could get an egg. She wants to Impress so badly if she could right now, she would."
She nodded, unable not to smile.
"As am I, I could have stayed at Benden." Zahrah was pleased at the chance meeting, one never knew where the evening might find them, after all. Luckily, she seemed to have picked a good one. She held his eyes, too, before looking out at the Gather booths and tents beyond before nodding.
"I wouldn't mind looking a little more. I've been wanting something to ward off the chill, myself. Bed furs are one thing, it's quite another to be in the Candidates' Dorm on a chilly morning in nothing but a daydress. It's certainly not Telgar but it's close enough after Ista."
