Madiquel didn’t want to cause a scene, but she was starting to get a bit irritated with the way none of the drudges or staff were answering her when she caught their gaze; they were obviously busy and she understood that, but the way they would immediately duck their head or turn away was more than a little irritating! Madiquel had pursed her lips, upset about her ruined daydream and now the being ignored and not wanting to cause a scene or leave the mess because she didn’t want anyone to get hurt.
Giving a puff of irritation that blew her hair out of her face, Madiquel was about to call out to a drudge that was mostly close enough that it wouldn’t cause too many to stare at her, when suddenly there were hands on her and she gave a squeak of surprise, head snapping in the direction of the voice that was speaking. Her mouth snapped shut and eyes widened dramatically as she stared up at D’hys in complete shock; then, she went crimson, it felt like her whole body was blushing as D’hys gazed at her, and then complimented her, and Madiquel wasn’t sure if she was going to pass out or not. She hoped not! That would be so, so so embarrassing!
Madiquel swayed slightly, unintentionally leaning into D’hys as she tried to find her voice. Did she fall asleep standing up? Was that possible? She would have been tempted to pinch herself to make sure, but she didn’t want to look a fool – whether she was awake or dreaming! – and instead felt Zezeth’s wordless reassurance that she was awake, and also that she was staring. Madiquel’s flush deepened, and she dropped her gaze as she took in a deep breath – oh Faranth, why hadn’t she realized she’d be able to smell him, and why did he smell good? – and stood up taller once more, sending a radiant smile at D’hys. She could do this!
While she didn’t move away from him, Madiquel also wasn’t swooning against him any longer, either. “Thank you,” she said with soft sincerity, glancing towards the drudge that was cleaning up; her lips pursed for a brief moment in irritation at that situation, but was quickly dismissed as D’hys asked after her wellbeing. Her brilliant smile was back as she returned her gaze to his face, shoving the urge to just gawk at him for the rest of the night deep, deep down so she could function – at least a little! “Wood is expensive,” she said in reply, tilting her head as she thought. Back in Katila, wood was their most available resource, but she had learned early in her Healing classes that wood wasn’t used much in the North, and when it was, it cost a lot. Silly, really. Though it did explain the cost of setting up her weyr!
“I’m okay,” she added, blushing again when she realized she hadn’t answered D’hys’ query. He must think her terribly rude, and no doubt more than a little daft! Madiquel’s nose scrunched up and she pouted at her thought, gaze shifting to where she had been standing. Imagining dancing with D’hys. Oh! Part of her insisted that it was the perfect time to make the request – but the louder part of her feared he’d much rather escape her and her silliness than be stuck dancing with her in that moment, so Madiquel didn’t fight to find the words, and instead looking up and gave a smaller smile. “Thank you again,” her blush was back, but at least now he could excuse himself and she could go back to her fantasy world, where she had so much more confidence and was much more articulate than the real her.
