Since this Hatching was traditional with the sire and likely wouldn’t contain skeletons in every egg, R’vi was excited for it and happily showed up to support some friends. The hour sucked but seeing bonds form was always worth a little missing sleep, especially if a friend walked away with a dragon.
So far, the Hatching was going well and he nodded in approval at some of the Impressions. He knew a fair bit of the Candidates thanks to his self-appointed job of helping those Searched adjust to Weyr life. The kid of the crazy ex-goldrider was a surprise to him since R’vi didn’t think there would ever be a dragon alive that would put up with him—except maybe an equally surly brown. But hey, good on the kid. It also meant they had another dragon thanks to him so R’vi figured he wasn’t all bad.
Then a gold appeared and R’vi scooted forward in his seat, holding his breath. He knew quite a few of the girls and he’d be happy for any of them to Impress but when they started panicking as a fight broke up, R’vi was on his feet from his own fear propelling him. He didn’t run flailing into the fray, not even when he saw Sariel on the ground and bleeding. It wouldn’t have helped since he wasn’t trained in anything. Besides, she was soon getting to her feet and walking away with the gold.
Way to go, Spicy! he could only cheer in his head but Vydoriath crooned from his ledge for him to show their excitement for the tiny Healer—now goldrider. He’d definitely have to check in with her before he left later to make sure she was okay and to offer his congratulations. He knew she would get her dream as she was far too determined to let anything stand in her way.
He did have to wonder if he’d be making more trips to Fort over the next little while. R’vi hated to think of L’gan all alone at night with only that drawing to tide him over after all. R’vi laughed at how his playing around with the greenrider ended up leading to something he might actually need now that his mate was a weyrling. He was going to have to tease the shit out of L’gan later on as well.
