Benden is hit with a heavy heatwave in the last week of Month Six, and first week of Month Seven, which carries through to the end of the month. Their weather will begin to cool in the last week of the month, dropping to the low 30s.

Ista Isle is amused by the weaklings of Benden, but at least their heat is dry. Benden is muggy and riddled with heavy thunderstorms and downpours.

Ista is heating up swiftly, and preparing for a rough summer - hopefully nothing like the one from a couple turns before with the wildfires! The rest of Northern Pern is warming upsomewhat slower, but with no less gusto as summer begins to creep into the sky, keeping the sun awake longer, warming the ledges of the weyrs. Rainstorms are sporadic, but keep the world well watered, despite the heat of the days.

The Red Star can be seen by those who choose to see it, causing no shortage of whispers that Thread will return - and just as much dismissal from those who do not believe. After all, it's been so long, surely it is no longer a threat! Weyrleaders are, regardless, beginning to put together wings in their Weyrs, if only to keep troublesome and bored riders busy.

Month 12, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Winter -3 - 2 C | 26 - 35 F
Fort is already home to snowfalls, though early in the month they fade away when the sun rises. As the month progresses, more snow stays on the ground, ending up with several feet of snow before the month is over. The areas around homes and populations has the snow shoveled away or trodden down. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove some danger and are routinely removed.

Ista Boundaries:
Winter, 9 - 21 C | 48 - 69 F
Generally warm enough to go about without a jacket on, Ista has low humidity but high chance of rain, generally in the form of vicious afternoon thunderstorms. The storms wash away any bite of heat the day had, and leave it feeling fresh for the night. The days are short, but grow bright quickly and the afternoons seem to be particularly short when heavy thunderstorms roll in and cover the sky.

Telgar Boundaries:
Winter, -5 - 0 C | 23 - 32 F
Bitterly cold, with icy winds constantly flowing down from the mountains. Freezing rain is almost constant; the sky always a murky grey and the ground slippery with slushy refrozen ice. The days are extremely short, with the nights dropping a good number below the daily average. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove a major danger, and are checked upon every day, with anything bigger than a fist being removed.

Month 07, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Summer 27 - 38 C | 80 - 100 F
Light breezes down from the mountains tot he North keep the temperature comfortable, even when the sun can bake an egg on the edge of a weyr. Sunburn is common.

Ista Boundaries:
Summer, 34 - 43 C | 93 - 110 F
A very dry, dusty heat. Little to no rain, causing more than some to worry about the drought not breaking and the rest of the Isle being at risk of fires. Many seek the depths of weyr, hold or hall during the midday and early afternoon heat.

Telgar Boundaries:
Summer, 26 - 35 C | 79 - 95 F
Muggy, sticky and generally just plain humid. Thunder storms are regular occurances, often happening in the early afternoon or evening, with heavy rainfall before drying off sometime in the night. Mornings are usually crisp, but warm up swiftly.

Month 04, 740 AL
North: Early Spring | South: Early Autumn
−1.9 C to 4.7 C | 20.0 C to 29.0

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. In comparison, Ista finds itself naturally warmer, (~10C / 50) and many people who can find rides are making their way to the Island to spend some time in warmth and sunshine, away from the lingering touch of winter.

Katila is beginning to cool down to more reasonable temperature, but is no less muggy and uncomfortable to those who are not used to the seasons. It is still a good place to escape to when seeking a warm day or a nice swim at the lake, though.

Winter has come slowly to the Northern lands of Pern, with more rain and cold winds than snow. As the month progresses, more and more snow will fall, with frequent blizzard-like storms towards the very end of the month. Telgar and Fort will in particular become burried under mountains of snow, while Ista is sunjected to frequent icy rainstorms, and heavy winds coming in from across the ocean.

Following the disastrous fires (sometime in around the 28th of Month 08), Ista Isle has found itself suddenly in the midst of constant rain; not enough to flood, but a steady, dreary downfall that seems to only take a time out for a couple of hours here and there, before coming back again. Its cast the entire sooty Isle into a sombre and depressed mood. Alongside the rain, the weather is muggy and while not hot, is not particularly cool, either.

The rest of Northern Pern is getting their usual weather, though they, too, have been called to action following the wildfires that savaged Ista. Many individuals who called Ista Island home have been relocated not just to Ista Weyr, Ista Hold or Sea Cliff Hold, but also to other areas of Pern, whether with family or friends.

Month 08, 739 AL

17.4 to 25.5 C | 10.8 C to 23.2 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm - 37 to 45 C - has resulted in an incredibly dry summer, with little to no rain. This was climaxed by a dry thunderstorm, the results of which caused three fires to start across the Island on the 24.07.739 in the early morning hours. While the results of this are yet to be played out, the events will no doubt leave more than just the scarring of the land.

Ista is still unseasonably warm, with average weather being in the 37 to 45 C range, making it now a more than slightly undesirable escape for the rest of the Northern population from the more enjoyable early summer weather. There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind. Ista's limited farmlands and fields are dry and dusty, with golden straw instead of grass where there is any growth at all.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Northern areas are still getting a lot of evening rain and the occasional thunderstorms, which cools down the populus and allows them to sleep easily without sweating their brains out like the Istans.

Month 11, 738 AL
North: Late Autumn | South: Late Spring

Autumn is coming to an end, with the days slowly becoming shorter still, with early nights and late mornings. The temperature is getting very cool, with jackets being more required, but it has yet to actually snow. Despite this, it is often raining and miserable.

The Southern contient is in full bloom, with flowers coming to life in the grasses and on the trees. The skies are bright blue with fluffy clouds, and occassional sunshowers bringing a dampness to the day. The nights are still crisp, but not cold. The ground is starting to dry up as water is absorbed by the blooming flora.

Month 10, 738 AL
North: Mid Autumn | South: Mid Spring

Autumn is in full tilt, with the leaves a shocking array of orange and red, and more of them on the ground than on the trees. The skies are often a clear and crisp blue, with a cool breeze flowing, shifting the leaves and sending them scattering. Rain is not common, but when it does roll in the skies are dark like night come early, and thunderstorms are not uncommon, though they don't last for long and the amount of rain that falls isn't too heavy.

Month 09, 738 AL
North: Start Autumn | South: Start Spring

Nothern regions are entering into Autumn, with the trees beginning to change to their reds and oranges, while the air is beginning to feel more crips. There are still more warm days than cool, and the nights are mostly warm enough for light bedding still. Rain has faded away and most days are clear and bright.

The Southern contient finds itself heading into spring, with rain and flowers vying for attention. The ground is often muddy and squishy, while the skies are either bright and blue, or overcast wtih fluffy clouds.

Month 08, 738 AL
North: End Summer | South: End Winter

Summer is winding to an end in the Northern hemisphere, with the weather slowly cooling and the trees beginning to turn their leaves. The days are still long and bright, but the sun is beginning to lose some of its strength.

The coastal Weyrs are falling victim to coastal storms, strong winds and heavy rains with thunder and lightening.

The more inbound Weyrs and Holds find themselves drier, not getting nearly as much rain or storms, they find themselves on the end of a long drought.

Month 07, 738 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter

Summer is in full spring in the Nothern hemisphere, with the bulk of each day being unbearbly hot, followed by vicious thunderstorms and heavy humidity in the evenings and at night.

The coastal areas are experiencing monsoon like weather, and spend a lot of their time locked away in Hold, Hall or Weyr.

The more inner locations find themselves faced with more dry heat during the day, and horrible humidity in the evening and at night while the thunderstorms rage.

B’kit crouched silently in a remote section of the Weyrbowl, playing hide and seek with Erebuth as a bonding exercise. It was Erebuth’s turn to find him, and he thought he’d found a good spot. “I heard the healers are finally giving up on that disastrous weyrling class and going back to the Hall.” B’kit didn’t recognize the voice, but he felt an irrational stab of alarm at the words before he rationalized it. That was stupid—the healers we’re leaving because the dragons didn’t need constant supervision anymore. No one had given up. The voice continued, “they should all have been dropped between the day they clutched. The Weyrleaders never should have allowed those abominations to hatch, let alone Impress.”

He seethed silently, peeking around the edge of the nook he’d been hiding in. Neither rider was particularly familiar but he was stunned by how blatantly they were talking about this. He knew awful things were being whispered, and had since the Hatching, but he’d never heard the conversations so publicly before, only rumors everyone tried to keep from the weyrlings.

“I feel bad for their riders,” the second man said. “Going through months of hell for sickly, doomed dragons. It’s such a waste of potential, losing three young riders to madness or entirely. They’d have been better off Impressing whers—at least then they could Impress again when the creatures die.”

Kitt felt sick overhearing this. He could feel Erebuth searching for him nearby and frantically tried to avoid broadcasting any of this to his blue. He wished the riders would move on, but the weather was too nice, encouraging loitering. “By the Egg! Would you really want them to?” The first man broke in again. “Anyone who Impressed a monster from that clutch has to be seriously damaged to begin with!”

B’kit startled at the sudden taste of blood in his mouth, realizing he’d bitten through his lip trying to keep quiet. He felt a ripple of alarm, and then rage from Erebuth as the blue processed what he’d heard and charged over. How dare you? You’re the monsters! The blue’s angry words startled the gossips, his eyes whirling an angry red. B’kit swore and scrambled out of his hiding spot to try to calm him down.

“Erebuth—stop! They’re not worth it, Re.” He flung his arms around the furious dragonet’s neck. Erebuth flared his wings in protest and writhed to get away, snarling angrily. “RE. Stop. Please, let’s just go back to our weyr.” The blue’s angry shrieks and the commotion was drawing attention, Kitt noticed with a jolt of anxiety. They said you’re damaged! That Dyoricath, Zezeth, and I are monsters. We’re not—they’re the monsters! You’re perfect. You’re mine

Mylorah often tried to watch weyrling lessons that were filled with fun activities like that morning's game of hide and seek. The little dragons were always so cute prancing around after their mates and with this clutch, she found it especially delightful. They were so full of life and energy now and that relieved so much of the stress she had been carrying around since the Hatching. She was finally able to relax and be happy for her three friends that they had Impressed and she looked forward to the day they graduated and became full-fledged dragonriders. Sure, she was quickly becoming one of the last of the Katila crew to Impress but she still had a long time to go before aging out and Mylorah was convinced her dragon was just being fashionably late and would make a grand entrance when ready.

She giggled as she watched Dyoricath beeline directly to where Sh'ran was hiding--that little blue seemed to have heightened senses beyond his siblings when it came to his Sh'ran--and wondered when her friend would ever be able to kiss someone again. The merriment quickly died when she heard a couple of men talking as they passed by her little spot she had claimed. They likely hadn't even noticed her and apparently didn't realise how loud they were talking as she glanced around and saw both B'kit and Erebuth change posture, as if they heard the horrible things being said.

As she got to her feet, debating what to say to the jerks, Mylorah saw Erebuth beat her to the punch as he countered their points. He was such a good and brave little boy! She wasn't so sure such things could be said about the men, however, and Mylorah rushed over to intervene since B'kit was busy keeping Erebuth restrained and she didn't want to see the darling boy be kicked by a coward who thought he was a tough guy.

"From where I'm standing, the weyrlings aren't the damaged ones," Mylorah crossed her arms in front of her chest and stared down the men. She wanted to believe everyone had a good side and even the crankiest person was just misunderstood, but these two were flat out bullies with no common sense or courtesy. "How can you say such things? Look at how they thrive. How they love. The Healers cleared them because of the improvement and haven't noticed any deficiencies but next time they're here, I'll send them to examine you."

She was about to say more, or possible give in to the urge to punch one of the men when she saw another figure approach and all the fire in her evaporated as a coldness settled in. D'hys. She had no idea which side of the argument he would be on but she was suddenly glad she hadn't jumped anyone and started clawing at them.

D'hys had done his best to stay neutral on Ista's latest disaster of a Hatching. He didn't approve of a blue winning a gold but he didn't go around shouting it to everyone he saw like some dragonriders seemed to have the urge to do. He was also on the fence about the weyrlings that had so far survived. They were abominations for the fact that the sire was blue but they were still dragons and against the odds, surviving which he was happy for. He would always have a soft spot for dragons and couldn't even wish death upon the three that managed to live long enough to bond.

So when his walk through the Bowl from Zeianth to his destination had him overhearing the screeching of one of the weyrlings he sighed and found himself on another fence. If you don't go over there, I will. The little ones don't need such negativity and lessons need to be taught to those that should know better. D'hys couldn't argue with his dragon since he was thinking the same things, but did he really have to be the one to play defender to the weak, like Zeianth seemed to enjoy?

It looked like he did as he saw Mylorah join the fray and saw the way the men tensed, possibly spoiling for a fight. He reached the group just in time to grab the back of the shirt of the man that had made to lunge at the girl and yanked him back, leaving him to stumble as he got his footing again. "Really? Weyrlings and girls when I'm right here? If you're looking for a thrashing, you only have to ask."

Still upset, Erebuth shrieked again and finally shook Kitt off. He landed hard on his ass in the dirt with a curse as the blue shoved him down and mantled his wings protectively, standing between his rider and the men. “Stop it! All of you!” He tried to get back up but was knocked off balance by the thrashing of Erebuth’s tail and wings. The blue was still small for his age, only 9 feet long at 3 months, but big enough to pose a problem.

B’kit was desperate to calm Erebuth down, especially as he saw Dyoricath charging over. The last thing they needed was for one of the blues to be the first non-hatchling to injure someone. Least of all injure someone already vocally critical of the clutch. One of them, he couldn’t tell which, laughed as Kitt struggled and pleaded with them all to stop. “That answers which one you are; you and that healer trainee wouldn’t shut up on the sands. Bleeding heart fools.” The blue weyrling snarled at this slight against his rider but didn’t move.

B’kit flashed Mylorah a grateful smile as she rushed over with several others. The second man seemed somewhat cowed by the approaching crowd, but the first was unrepentant. B’kit’s relief was short lived as Mylo almost immediately goaded the man with a retort about him needing a visit from a healer. At her words, the man’s face darkened and he lunged forward.

D’hys was an unexpected, but thoroughly welcome defender as he managed to pull the bully away from Mylorah. “You’re the one asking for it, bluerider,” he snarled before getting his balance and lunging for the new target, landing a solid punch on the Fort rider while the young blues shrieked.

Misha joined his dragon and Madiquel rushed over with Zezeath. Kitt finally managed to scramble to his feet again as and hurried to pull Erebuth’s head around as if he were dealing with a herdbeast instead of a furious dragon. “Erebuth, STOP,” he said as firmly as he could manage while his blue thrashed and tried to pull away again.

D'hys cracked his jaw, testing it out after the punch that had admittedly caught him off guard and slowly turned his glare back to the man that clearly lacked in common sense. "First one's free. Care to try again?" His glare turned into a feral grin as he all but beckoned the idiot to attack. As predicted, Dumber --because the other guy at least recognised he was in over his head and D'hys considered him only Dumb--still had a need to show off he had the bigger dick, or perhaps simply was the bigger dick, and took a step forward to finish what he started.

That step was all that was needed to trigger the sign a fight was desired and D'hys swung out a palm, catching the man's nose square on to break it. Before he could fully recover, another punch was thrown, this time to the stomach. When he hunched over from the blow, D'hys decided to finish the whole ordeal and stepped around the loudmouth and waited until he started to straighten before landing a kidney shot. Perhaps it was unnecessary considering the rider was about to go to his knees anyway, but D'hys wasn't taking any chances, not when more weyrlings were coming to join the fray. He wanted this man down and out and it seemed he had achieved the 'down' and the 'out' was coming close as Dumber writhed on the ground.

D'hys didn't bother saying anything else to Dumber, having already washed him from his mind as he stepped back around to address the original two involved and saw Zeianth had come closer and was clearly working on the feisty blue weyrling. Hush now, young one. You did well defending your rider but the trouble is over now. Let go of your anger and check that your rider is okay.

"You should probably watch how much sass you throw around, Mylorah," when the girl answered by lifting her chin in stubborn defiance, D'hys snorted in amusement. He had no doubt she would have been clawing her attacker and fighting dirty if she had to; she was raised in a jungle after all.

"And you, B'kit,," he turned to B'kit, keeping back several feet so as not to crowd the upset dragon, and took a moment to scan the pair for any physical markings, though D'hys was certain it had only been verbal remarks that had been made before he arrived. "Are the two of you okay?" He wasn't sure if getting so riled up was good for the dragon given his difficult early days of life and hoped Erebuth wasn't about to keel over from heart failure.

Honestly, Zezeth wasn’t the type of dragon to be vocal, either mentally or vocally. Which was why the young dragon startling awake, rumbling in confusion, and then vocally shrieking with rage surprised Madiquel so badly she almost threw the book she was quietly reading, jumping on the spot and then clasping her chest with both hands. “Zee?” Madiquel asked, confused, before she scrambled to her feet, book forgotten, and charged after her dragon as she heard yelling, dragon screeching, and… wait, that wasn’t Dyoricath screaming. Shocked, Madiquel arrived upon the tail end of the bickering, wide green eyes shifting to take in all that had apparently happened.

Madiquel’s wide eyes took in the confident looking bluerider D’hys – she’d spent quite a lot of time around him, thanks to her relationship with Rhaedalyn and R’nya, though her father didn’t appear to like him over much – and the bleeding man on the ground. She bit her lip, shifting uncomfortably on her feet as Zezeth nuzzled against Erebuth’s neck. She wanted to help the man stem the bleeding of his apparently broken nose, but she could feel Zezeth’s outrage at the defeated humans, and could clearly see how upset B’kit and his dragon were. The indecision was taken from her, when he scrambled to his feet and took off, spitting in their general direction. Madiquel’s nose scrunched up, disgusted.

Stepping forward some more, with a glance at her friends and classmates, Madiquel offered a small smile to D’hys. “Thank you, D’hys,” she said softly but with genuine appreciation for his stepping forward. She felt Zezeth’s curiosity as the young green left her brother, who appeared to be calming, and slipped up beside Madiquel, tipping her head back to peer up at Zeianth with curiosity and interest. She didn’t speak to him, didn’t even project any emotions at the blue, just studied him for several long moments before turning her attention back to Madiquel and puffing a warm breath on the girl’s cheek. Madiquel smiled, and pressed a hand to Zezeth’s cheek.

Between Kitt’s arms around him, Zeianth’s calming words, and his sister’s soft nuzzling, Erebuth finally began to calm down. His eyes were still an unhappy orange, but were slowly shifting as his anger left. The blue sat abruptly, the energy from his outrage gone as quickly as the frenzy had come over him.

Suddenly feeling immensely guilty, he asked in his gravelly voice, are you okay? The blue checked him over from head to toe, nosing him to turn or move and startling a slightly hysterical sobbing laugh from the young man.

Re, I’m fine. Maybe a bruised tailbone and definitely bruised dignity, but otherwise fine. B’kit turned to D’hys. “We’re alright. Just rattled.” He let out a breath shakily. “Thank you. You didn’t… you didn’t have to intervene, but I’m grateful you did.”

A slight furrow appeared between his brows as he saw the redness forming on the man’s jaw where he’d been hit, and glanced at his hands to see if they were bruising too, but they seemed fine. Clearly the man knew what he was doing when he’d fought back, and perhaps something about that was a little unsettling, but Kitt shoved that feeling down before Erebuth’s hair trigger could go off again. He’d helped them, that was the important part. “Do you need some ice for that? We could probably scrounge some up.”

Fuck. Jajojin’s daughter. How much had she seen? It was one thing for her to know he had stepped in and helped her friend but it was another to have her see him so swiftly take care of a nuisance and report to daddy. If she had seen the fight or not, she still thanked him and D’hys nodded at her gratitude but didn’t say anything as his gaze went back to the targeted blue pair, ensuring they were fine.

Zeianth gave him a small nod that the little blue seemed to be calming down and wouldn’t be an issue anymore and it seemed the human was recovering from it all, if still a bit lost in shock. Speaking of shock, D’hys gave the boy a confused look at the offer for ice before recalling the lucky punch Dumber got in and gently touched his jaw. A little tender, would likely be red by now and maybe even show a bit of colouring later on, but he’d be fine. “No need. I’ll tend to it in a bit.” He’d find some ice after running his errand and didn’t need the gaggle of kids tagging along for it.

“You did well looking after each other. Never forget how important that is and always trust each other.” D’hys frowned at the tiny dragonets that now surrounded him and saw how frail they still looked despite the obvious improvement from when they hatched. He couldn’t stand seeing a dragon in such a way and he knew Zeianth was itching to put his wings around them all and protect them like he wanted to do with all the weaker and meek dragons.

Fuck.

“I want you, any of you three,” he glanced at B’kitt, then Madiquel, and Sh'ran so they knew exactly which three were included, “to send word to me if you hear anyone whispering about your class again. I’ll take care of them for you and all I ask in return is that you take care of your mates. Now, is there anything else I can do for you? I need to be on my way but Zeianth has a sudden interest in what your class is learning this afternoon and will be sticking around to watch.”
