The response from the egg was almost immediate, though the brief mental glance wasn’t exactly the ideal reaction from a dragonet. Irritation at being bothered rolled over Misharan, and he smiled at it, stroking the shell lightly with his thumb.
“I get you, being woken up when you’re not ready sucks,” he told it, thinking of his own distinct lack of fondness for early mornings. The dragonet latched onto the memory Misha projected of blearily rousing to someone shaking his shoulder that morning, seeming to relate to it.
“Yeah, no worries, I’ll leave you alone, buddy. You’ve got another week to rest in there. Make the most of it.” With a last gentle stroke against the shell, Misharan withdrew his hand as the dragonet returned its consciousness to its egg. He stood up and took a few steps back, laughing lowly at how very much he related to an egg. Hopefully, the other Candidates would leave that particular egg alone and just let it do its thing.
Undeterred by not exactly positive reaction from the first egg — Misha wasn’t going to blame anyone for not wanting to get up — he decided to introduce himself to another egg. His eyes fell on another egg, only a few feet away, and made his way over to it, again giving it a friendly greeting and introducing himself before placing a hand on its side.
