V’ler was glad when Indivara said she’d go see Quennell. He was tired of hearing and seeing her ill and was close to losing his own lunch at times because of it. He never said he had a strong stomach and knew perfectly well what his limits were. He tried not to speculate on what was causing her so much discomfort this time and when Indivara hadn’t comeback right away, he wasn’t worried. It had been decided she was told she had a stomach flu and was either out going for a walk for fresh air or sleeping in the infirmary thanks to some fellis.
When Indivara did show up, V’ler didn’t notice. He was absorbed with a melody playing over and over in his head and was jotting it down as quickly and concisely as he could. He only glanced up when his papers were suddenly being shoved over and a petite body was flopping down on his desk. He nodded at the admission that whatever ailed her wasn’t contagious, which was definitely a good thing considering they shared a bed and he’d likely be sick within a few days if it was.
It was the mumbled confession that left V’ler frowning with confusion. “So?” he asked, not sure why going between was suddenly such an important factor to the conversation. Unless Indivara was so sick she wanted to end it all right then and there. Before alarm could set in over that idea, V’ler mentally waved it away, knowing full well that wasn’t something Indivara would ever consider doing. So why wouldn’t Venseth take her and where did she want to go?
Oh no.
He set down the quill he had been using and glanced at the spare one Indivara toyed with. He was tempted to pull it away from her and demand her attention to focus on him so he could better read her, but he didn’t. He really didn’t need to see her face clearly to know what he needed to know. Indivara seemed almost defeated in that moment and V’ler pinched the bridge of his nose as he felt a pressure headache setting in.
“Seriously?” This wasn’t something he wanted to know or to deal with. He had escaped a lot of her wrath the first time around but now he was stuck with her as they were well and truly mated now and he liked their cozy nook too much to pack up and leave just to avoid hormonal mood swings. They had been having sex together for about a month and with his luck, she got pregnant from the first time.
“You don’t want to keep it, right? Hence wanting to go between,” At least they were still on the same page about the matter. He adored Varlea and went to visit frequently but V’ler knew he’d never make it as a full time father and was glad to have someone else raise his daughter. In fact, he hoped they’d take on his new kid with the same level of eagerness and love. He just didn’t have it in him to dedicate so much of himself to a child.
Veeth wasn’t even considered as an alternative to Venseth taking Indivara on the special trip women liked to take at least once a month. His dragon was too kind and wouldn’t do it if Venseth told him not to. Would any other dragon do so with her so far along already? Even if they found someone to do it, how upset would Venseth be? V’ler loved dragons far too much to want to hurt one, even if he was the one that ended up miserable for eight months.
