Pell!

Yawning, Par'a looked up from the plate she was almost dropping face-first into from exhaustion. 'Yes?' She replied, ripping a small piece of warm bread from the slice and stuffing it into her mouth.

You promised!

Par'a sighed. 'I know.' Unenthusiastically she shovelled meat in with the bread and chewed, fighting against the desire to collapse asleep right there and then.

So! Hurry up!

With a grumble she rubbed her eyes, reaching for her glass of juice. 'I'll hurry when you let me sleep through the night.' She retorted somewhat sourly, swallowing her mouthful and taking a deep drought from the glass.

I had to make sure! It's been four days!

Surprise echoed across her face at Grith's words. 'Since when do you know anything about time?' She asked, wondering where she was getting her facts from.

You. The healers. Khainth and hers.

Par'a shook her head in amazement, well she certainly was determined. 'Fine. I'm coming out now.' Her words were answered with a hyper screech from outside. Standing she pushed the half-eaten meal across the table, someone else could clean up after her today. Tiredly she trudged towards the entrance of the dining hall, her steps somewhat cautious as she approached the doors. Thankfully today, Grith made no attempt to enter the building to check on her rider, though when Par'a opened the doors she noticed she was flying tiny loops just outside.

'Grith, land. You're keeping people from getting their breakfast.' Par'a ordered, noticing a few people that were standing a short distance from the tiny Green, unsure whether or not it was safe to approach the hall. Grith dropped down with an audible thud, trotting over gleefully to her rider. Par'a jumped astride the Green, ever thankful that she was tiny enough to not require climbing to reach the saddle. Grith bounced on the spot as her rider tied herself in securely, not even registering the worry Par'a felt about falling off in her exhausted state.

Ready? She asked, jumping aloft before Par'a even had the chance to respond. '…Sure.' Par'a sent dourly. Leaning forward she wrapped her arms around the dragon, closing her eyes as they rose and flicked between. They reappeared above a cluster of huts, Grith trumpeting her arrival jovially. She swirled down with more speed than Par'a felt she was capable of handling, her stomach churning as the spiral grew tighter and tighter. She landed abruptly, galloping between the huts until she reached the one she was looking for. Ra! Ra! Ra come out! She called loudly, causing Par'a to groan as she undid her riding straps and swung off before the Green started to leap about. Her dismount was well timed, the second her feet hit the ground Grith was doing exactly that; leaping around in a circle eagerly.

Walking over to the door Par'a knocked, even though there was no real need to announce their arrival, Grith had already done that loudly enough. Still, one could always be polite.

Indivara hadn't returned home at all the previous day. After leaving in the early morning with her arms ladened with clothing, the child had been preoccupied by one thing or another, right up until the moment she found the time to sneak off to see Jada and her little gold dragonet in the late evening. She couldn't even remember if she'd managed to eat the previous day, though the young weyrbrat figured it was a moot point, as she sipped on a mug of klah and made her way quietly through the Weyr proper, enjoying the silence of the early morning and that most people were still abed. Those that weren't were kind enough to ignore a wandering weyrbrat, and the girl was thankful.

The night before had been long, as she talked until late with Jada and Krypth, before they'd all fallen asleep. She hadn't meant to linger so late, or keep the harper up until such terrible hours. It was bad enough the little dragonet was letting the girl get so little sleep; she didn't need a whining weyrbrat giving her issues, too! But the pair had been firm in keeping Indivara in the room with them, and the younger girl could hardly complain about their good company and that she felt much better early that morning, when Krypth had roused Jada for love and affection in the form of food, baths and oiling. Indivara had wished the young goldrider luck before rolling over and wrapping Jada's bedfurs around her smaller body. It wasn't that Indivara didn't want to help Jada with Krypth, not at all. It was simply that the bond was so fresh, and the girl had no desire to be beat by G'rump's stick. She had enough bruising, thank you very much.

The girl hadn't lingered long after they had left, however. She had waited until she was sure the Weyrling quarters were well and truly empty before she slipped out of Jada's room (she even made the bed first, rather than leaving it in the messy nest she had made of it. Kerrin would be so proud of her!) and out into the Gather Square. A quick glance around showed her where the Weyrlings were concentrated, and she fled in the opposite direction, stealing a mug of klah from their cooking pot as she did so. As she sipped the remainder, Indivara slipped past the last of the houses before stubbing her toe. Swearing, the girl hopped on the spot for a moment, cursing her luck to hurt a part of her not actually hurt at the same moment her mind was blasted by the enthusiastic and very loud screeches of Grith. Dropping the mug with a small shriek of surprise, Indivara clapped both hands over her ears - as if that would do anything - and stared up at Grith as she bounced around exuberantly in front of her mother's hut.

"Ahr'a!" Indivara greeted hoarsly, lifting a hand and stepping delicately past and then in front of the mug that had smashed. Her features were blank, unable to twist the bruised and stitched muscles into a smile, but her blue eyes were bright with laughter as the girl took in the exhausted expression on the greenrider's face. "Late night?" she asked, barely moving her lips though the words were relatively clear, and the tone she took was sly. Turning her gaze upon the high maintenance dragon, Indivara gave another cheerful wave, her current smile-replacement.

"Hello 'ith!"

Indivara's hoarse greeting caused Grith to fall still, for a moment anyway. Whirling around her eyes flashed bright pink, locking onto the girl. Leaping forward she scurried over to the weyrbrat, much like an excited puppy or kitten. She skidded to a slower pace as she reached her, snuffling and bumping her as she circled her. The movements were soft and gentle, nothing that would aggravate her wounds, though how Grith had the sense to do so was unclear. Coming to a stop in front of Indivara, Grith plonked her hindquarters down on the ground, craning her head down till her nose was inches from her scalp. Exhaling, she sent Indivara's hair flying all around, no doubt working in several knots as the process repeated each time Grith breathed.

Hello Ra!

Par'a watched the exchange between the girl and her dragon through heavy-lidded eyes, 'late night' didn't even begin to cover it. "Mm. Half hour check ins, 'We're going to see Ra, right?'." Par'a answered flatly, leaning against the door of the hut.

Ra! Grith interjected, though whether Par'a could summon the effort to speak any further was doubtful. Do you have paints? She asked excitedly. Par'a hadn't brought any along, though Grith hadn't mentioned to her that she had wanted to be painted. Then again, was it any surprise? She jumped up, her tail wagging much like a canine's behind her, threatening to wallop Par'a in the stomach.

"Grith… if you hit me you won't get prettied for a week." She threatened. Not that Grith had any concept of a week, or a day… or time.

Oh no! I'm sorry Pell! She apologised. But you have paints right?

Indivara giggled softly at Grith's exuberant greeting, her fingers light and gentle as she ran them over the dragon's face during the sparse moments that the green's head remained still enough to touch. The weyrbrat sighed softly as Grith breathed into her hair, raising her hands above her head to gently frame the dragon's face, petting her with gentle fingers.

"Hello," Indivara murmured softly, her smile in her voice though she refrained from allowing the expression to move across her face. Smiling was not meant to be painful, and that it was caused the young girl a lot of grief. She liked smiling. She also happened to like speaking, yelling, and frowning, all of which were currently denied her.

Indivara gave Par'a an understanding look, though it was etched for the most part in bright blue eyes, rather than across her features. She had had a long day previously, fallen asleep very late, and been awoken by the gold dragonet who seemed to have very little idea of what sleeping in meant. Indivara dearly hoped her own dragonet had the lazy flair that would not require it to be up and at it when the sun was just beginning to peep over the horizon. Mornings were for sleeping!

Grith's question had Indivara turning back to the dragon, her thoughtful "Ahh," was followed by a wink at the dragon and she slipped out from under Grith's nose, and over to where Par'a was leaning against the door. "In!" Indivara more commanded than invited, pushing the woman that had been her baby sitter for so many turns into the building and then shooing her towards the bedroom. "Slee'!" she commanded, winking again before digging around under her own bed for the box of paints she kept.

Holding them up to Par'a, Indivara's blue eyes sparkled with amusement as she used the box to indicate that Par'a could probably claim at least an hour or two to herself while Indivara and the green got covered in several coatings of paint. Which Kerrin wouldn't approve of, since Indivara had no desire to change out of the pretty clothing her mother had chosen for her to visit the Weyrleader in. As she slipped back outside, Indivara gave a sharp whistle between her teeth to get Grith's attention, and waved the box cheerfully.

Grith trilled pleasantly at Indivara’s touch, her hands were still small but they were smooth and warm against her hide. Spinning she began to prance around, her swinging tail and wings somehow not hitting anyone or anything. She kept her eyes mostly fixated on Indivara as she made her way over to and then into the hut. As the two disappeared within she creeled loudly, coming to a halt as she stared at the door. Hey! Come back!

If Par’a had been more awake, she might have tried to chide Indivara for shooing her about. As it were, she just followed, her feet dragging along the ground. Despite Indivara’s words being somewhat slurred from her wounds it didn’t take a genius to figure out what she was offering, or more commanding to the Greenrider. Shuffling over to the bed she’d been pushed towards she flopped onto it, tugging at the furs somewhat unenthusiastically. Exhausted and comfortable, she was gone in moments, barely seeing the box of paints Indivara held up to show her.

While Indivara was rummaging Grith had taken to prancing about again and didn’t see her exiting the hut. The whistle certainly caught her attention though. Spinning on the spot she eyed the girl and the box with vibrant pink eyes. Bouncing over she skidded to a halt before Indivara, giving her a dirt shower in the process.

Paint! What colours? Grith eagerly nosed the box, threatening to tip it out of Indivara’s hands with her enthusiasm. Dropping down to her stomach she splayed her wings out wide on the ground and held her head up. Start here! She shook her head a little, meaning for the paint to start on her face. Grith liked it when her face was painted because she could see some of the colours, but when they were closer to her eyes it was a surprise until later!

Indivara giggled softly at Grith's indignant demand that her human company be returned, but she didn't pause as she made sure the rider found a bed, and she watched with amusement as Par'a was lost to the world within moments. All the better, the woman looked more exhausted than the poor Master Healer had the day after the Hatching! That didn't bear thinking about, however, as the girl grinned at the dragon that was suddenly bearing down on her with ecstatically swirling colours in her eyes. The girl gave a squeaking squeal when Grith started nosing at the box and Indivara shoved it under one arm while using the other to shove the excitable dragon forcefully in the nose. With her voice severely lacking for the time being, Indivara resorted to motions she was sure the creature would understand, no matter how excitable she might be at the time.

Another giggle when Grith demanded her face be painted, and though the child didn't answer vocally what colours she had, she did hold them all up one at a time to show the enthusiastic dragon. Her face was hurting too much to actually speak, and she was probably due for another round of numbweed or fellis or something (Indivara hadn't paid a lick of attention to Talian's instructions though she was sure her mother had). Setting the box down carefully to one side, Indivara gave Grith a very hard stare and shook her pointer finger in the dragon's face, a clear indication that if the creature touched the box, she would pack it up and not paint her. Indivara didn't hold much faith that the scatter brained green would work that out, but warning her was best and then she planned to keep her distracted with paint.

"Kay!" She agreed, belatedly, to painting Grith's face and she picked up a bottle of orange paints, showing it to the dragon with sparkling eyes before she opened the lid and dipped her finger into it. Now, what to paint on the beast? Sliding closer to her, Indivara traced lines across Grith's face in the bright colour, humming happily to herself as she did so. Normally, the girl would prattle on aimlessly if she were painting alone, or, if in the company of other weyrbrats, either pick on them or listen in silence as they prattled on. Unable to do either at the time, she settled on humming happily since she doubted Grith would have the presence of mind (or the ability to remain concentrating for long enough) to mind speak. Indivara didn't really want the loud green playing around in her brain anyway!

Of course, painting Grith never stayed a solo task for very long and Indivara's little brother quickly joining them, the four turn old boy quickly lathering both hands (and half his clothing) in paints and sticking hand prints across the membranes of Grith's right wing, while Indivara left orange streaks across the thighs of her pants as she cleaned her fingers and buried them in a pot of blue paint. She continued painting Grith's face in streaking likes, and her pant legs in the left overs.

Grith gave a little whine as she was shoved in the nose, watching the box almost disappear under Indivara's arm. She scratched at the ground anxiously, Indivara wouldn't keep the paints away from her would she? She only just brought them out! They were still in the box it had been such a short time since they had been fetched.

At least Indivara stayed and even showed her the colours! Grith crooned, staring at each pot as it was held up before her. Some of them showed the tell tale marks of love, with dried paint spilt all down the outside and around the rims of the pots. It was these Grith stared at most excitedly, they were clearly the best colours if they were so loved! Right? When the young girl stared at her Grith tilted her head, confused. Her finger wagging confused Grith even more, causing her to bark loudly and whine again. Ra what are you doing? She whined, though there wasn't much time for Indivara to really respond, the Green's eyes flashing through yellow and back to pink in seconds once she saw the orange paint.

When Indivara moved closer and began to trace lines on her face Grith gave a little shiver, the paint was cool on her hide and well, this was exciting! She soon fell still, or at least, her face and neck were like a rock while her tail swished back and forth. It was moving so quickly it was almost a blur, like she had channelled all her excitement down into it so that she wouldn't disrupt Indivara's painting. She didn't really notice the silence from Indivara as she was giving off a deep, throaty hum that would have at least partially drowned out anything she would have said anyway. The sound wasn't like the vibrations one heard at a hatching, but was some semblance of a tune. What tune it was, who knew, most likely one that Grith had fabricated to keep herself amused in the middle of the night.

The arrival of Indivara's younger brother startled Grith a bit, she had been so absorbed in her humming and trying to look at the streaks Indivara was applying to her face. Her wings twitched in response but she fell, relatively, still again as he set to work on her wing. It was a strange sensation and probably not the safest to have a four year old slapping heavy hands onto such a delicate area but Grith certainly didn't have the sense of mind to guide him elsewhere. Not to mention she kind of liked it! It was like a massage.

Huffing a little as Indivara switched paints Grith raised her head for a moment, swinging it around to inspect her wing. She trilled, it was gorgeous! But there were only two painting her! They would never get done today! Laying her head back down to receive the blue streaks she pondered for a moment. Rin should join us! She decided, announcing this to both Indivara and her brother. It would serve as a warning of course, Grith wasn't a sensitive Green and even if she were there was no way she would go about it quietly.

[b]RIN! RIIIIIIIIIIIN! RIN COME PLAY![b]

Her voice pounded through the Weyr, managing to rouse Par'a for a few moments, just long enough to spit filthy curses and roll over. Hopefully Kerrin was actually in Katila, otherwise Grith would go screaming louder and louder until she reached him, wherever he was.

Now he can. :|

Indivara's amusement was visible as she continued to quietly pain the little green dragon, though her smile was almost non existent, her eyes were bright with amused delight. Grith was, perhaps, her favourite dragon within the entire weyr and while her little brother foundered around at the green's wing, Indivara was enjoying having the excitable and loud beast at her whim, curled up in her palm even! Despite her youthful age, Indivara was already hooked on the taste of power, even if that power was the simple ability to control a hyperactive and uncontrollable dragon, simply by hiding a jar of paint. But Grith was also sweet, and Indivara loved the dragon that had been such a large part of her own life. Perhaps even more so than her mother's green, in her own charming way.

The girl's own humming was out volumed by that of the dragon, but Indivara didn't mind, continuing along at any rate with a cheerful and childish delight. She was surprised and yet not, by Grith's sudden declaration that Kerrin should join them. The little girl's eyes widened dramatically as she realised what the next move would be, and she clapped both painted hands over her ears with a sharp whistle between her teeth to catch her baby brother's attention. He, too, looked horrified as hands clapped over his own ears, a wet and squishy slap of paint against skin and hair echoing before Grith's voice bellowed into their minds. Covering their ears didn't really do anything, of course, but Indivara liked to pretend it helped and her baby brother was convinced it did; he would have never let her hear the end of it, for at least the rest of the day, if she hadn't warned him.

Paint coated hands dropped from Indivara's ears, leaving traces in both her hair and on her skin, as she refrained delicately from grimacing. Her little brother wasn't nearly so subtle and his face scrunched up unhappily as he stared at Grith. Indivara gave the little boy a harsh look that clearly indicated if he started crying, she'd make sure to give him a good reason to continue it. She didn't want the silly little brat upsetting Grith and Par'a needed some sleep! The little boy sulked, pouting at Indivara before returning to his messy hand-print style of painting. HE quickly perked up, enjoying himself as he ran around and around the dragon, hand prints changing to wavering lines as he dragged his fingers lightly over her in looping circles around and around and around, ducking under Indivara's working fingers, or darting around her to pick up on the other side.

Indivara, for her part, had stopped her humming and was instead painting a delicate flower around Grith's eye, the petals extending outwards across her face so the colour changing flecks would be the centre of the flower. Her attention, however, was focused closely on Grith - if Kerrin didn't turn up, the green would undoubtedly start screeching again, and Indivara happened to like her mind in one piece. But the call was also liable to bring other brats, if they weren't in school or otherwise occupied doing something. Their little two-person painting was quite likely about to become a zoo of weyrbrats.
