Ten days had passed since Talian's incident. Well, it would be ten that evening. Ten days since B'jin had saved Talian's life, pulling him back from the brink of death and giving him a reason to value his own life again.
B'jin's 'little healer' was still sick. His stomach was still unsettled and his throat still a bit raw, but otherwise, he'd recovered quickly enough. He'd been eating well and regaining his strength, as well as taking some carefully selected medications to help his innards recover from the poisoning. He'd made a point of getting out and walking around a little bit, getting his body used to working again. He was getting enough sleep for the first time since coming to Katila.
Overall, he was doing pretty well. Well enough to get out of bed and come to the lashing, which he'd only heard about the day before due to his general confinement to the infirmary.
He hobbled up, face laden with a harsh frown. He could hardly believe something so barbaric could be true, and yet here it was! And not only that, but the crowd seemed excited! It completely revolted him, but he didn't leave. How could he? B'jin had been there for him! He needed to be there for B'jin!
Good thing Tal had a strong stomach.
He'd pestered Erisi to come and witness the event with him, if only so he'd have someone to clutch to when it got bad. Eri wasn't there yet, but Tal was relieved to see Valerian. Another welcome, familiar face. Tal walked over to his friend and nodded a greeting.
"Hello, Val," he whispered softly, like ice was flowing through his veins. He glanced into the middle of the square at B'jin. Poor bastard.
