As a Harper it was only natural to want to attend major events and record what happened. Even though he hadn’t been asked to do the official record keeping of the lashing, Valerian had decided to attend, his rank and profession proudly on display in the form of knots and the blue shirt he wore. He wasn’t going to do his own record keeping, though later that night back in his room he likely would make notes for his own keeping like he had been doing since arriving at Katila, but was attending to show support for B’jin and Larrikith. Valerian suspected the crowd would be full of rowdy people cheering for a public display of humiliation and the more friendly faces in the audience, the easier it might be to take on everything else. Or so he liked to think anyway. There was also the belief that the little green dragon wouldn’t be pleased with the abuse and while he wasn’t foolish enough to believe he had any major sway over her, Valerian did hope maybe he could help keep her calm while B’jin was otherwise detained.
He didn’t wait to see if any of his fellow Candidates were going or not, preferring to go to this particular lashing alone, and headed off with enough time to make it to the Square minutes before the punishment was to be given. Green eyes took in the crowd as he approached, noting there were some already that seemed to be enjoying it – brown and bronzeriders happy to see a green punished, perhaps? – while others whispered with each other or looked nervous. None of them were truly important however as Valerian watched B’jin and Larrikith land and the rider head to the man that held a whip and looked like he was going to enjoy every swing he was allowed to take. Without meaning to the young Harper winced at the thought before Larrikith’s outburst startled him and drew his full attention to her. He carefully moved closer to her, not wanting to get hurt or rile her up more and stood a good distance from her that gave her some room but was also near enough that he could lightly call her name and let the little green decide if she wanted company or to even acknowledge his presence.
