R’nd’s unassuming touch, and the general closeness of the bluerider caused every little hair over T’bia’s neck, shoulders and arms to stand up on end and he shivered, drawing his knees closer in terrified mortification of his reaction, clinging to them tightly as his traitorous body revelled in the innocent companionship offered. T’bia’s breath caught in his throat, and he bit his lower lip as he once more pressed his knees into the back of his eyes. He was lost in a flurry of half-realised fantasies, in those few moments between R’nd moving to wrap an arm around his shoulder, and the soft questions falling forth between them.
T’bia latched onto them like a drowning man onto driftwood.
“I d-don’t think that’ll h-help.” T’bia’s voice was husky and a low murmur and he paused at the end of his sentence to clear his throat, though he did not lift his head nor look at R’nd. He had heard R’nd – and other riders – talk about ‘bedroom’ eyes though T’bia was quite sure he had no idea what bedroom eyes were in literal terms or how to give them. He was, however, quite positive he did not want R’nd to see any of what he was sure was all over his face in those moments – primarily his confusion and terror… and the… the…Lust, Jycenth whispered to T’bia, but his presence was riddled with patient amusement. T’bia had never been able to control his expressions, but he was good enough at hiding his whole face! That, however, would not hide the body-wide flush that was creeping up the back of his neck.
He dreams of Flying, Jycenth put in helpfully, his light and cheerful voice brushing lightly against the edge of R’nd’s mind for perhaps the first time since he had learned to speak privately. Generally, Jycenth preferred to help guide T’bia through speaking for himself, and making sure the boy said what he felt needed to be shared. The young blue was also well aware of the unusual quality of his voice, and while there were certainly those with just as unique tones, he was somewhat self-conscious of bespeaking others because of it.
This time, however, Jycenth felt interference was necessary. Conversation of past with Ayyonth had him recalling that the other blue’s rider could be a little slow on the pickup – and that was when people were speaking plainly. Jycenth was quite sure both humans would still be in the pool, and quite wrinkled, by the time T’bia finished dancing around the subject half hoping to lead R’nd astray and half hoping the man would magically read his mind and bring his dreams to life. R’nd could not read his mind, but Jycenth could. The blue’s eyes were alight with loving mischief as he watched. He was tempted to share the best bit, and watch water fly all around, but he would give T’bia a chance to share, first.
As soon as T’bia realised Jycenth had actually spoken to R’nd, however, the boy had groaned lowly, the sound riddled with exactly how mortified he was that Jycenth had shared that with R’nd. His arms lifted enough to release his knees (though those were nearly glued to his chest) and wrap over the back of his head, fingers splaying through his damp hair and T’bia was both thankful and distraught that the water wasn’t reaching high enough to drown himself. He was so embarrassed! Unseeing blue eyes, still pressed tightly to his knees, were hot with tears.
