T’bia’s eyes widened dramatically as R’nd answered the question asked, T’bia both surprised by getting the answer so quickly and easily, but also by R’nd’s frank phrasing – wasn’t he supposed to avoid those types of words? The ones that sounded all serious and stuff? T’bia’s expression when R’nd elaborated further to name his date as Rhaedalyn was probably priceless: an innocent gawk as he tried to put those pieces together, and failed rather wonderfully as the other rider continued to speak.
“Maybe she wants to talk to someone, and it can’t be either of them?” T’bia hazard with a sceptical look, speaking very slowly as he tried carefully to think about the words before they left his lips, lest he embarrass himself. In the end, he gave a confused frown to R’nd at the end of the question, then shrugged aimlessly. It was not his date to worry about, though flower picking did not sound nearly all that terrible! T’bia usually picked things that were useful – namely, fruit – but he found such tasks pleasant enough and imagined that picking flowers could not be any less so. Besides, flowers had this delightful tendency to smell wonderful, even if you could not always eat them.
A grin crept onto T’bia’s face at the mention of berries, a bright, enthusiastic expression lighting up his eyes. “Berries are wonderful,” he gushed, tipping his head back in delight before tilting it to one side and watching R’nd. “But I dunno if you’ll find any.” He shrugged again, having no more idea of when the berries were around than R’nd did; honestly, T’bia couldn’t even say if berry treats had been included in the general menu of late or not, either. He grinned impishly suddenly. “Maybe you’ll find another firelizard!” He giggled, both naughty and pleased with himself.
