One moment, the sands were empty of dragonets, and the next there was suddenly a brown where once there had been the Thought Is Free egg. When he had hatched, was not quite known by any, for he had almost definitely just appeared amongst the shards of his shell while everyone was occupied with watching his gold sister and blue brother find their lifemates. The young Thought Is Free dragonet didn’t seem to have any issues with that, however, as he quietly made his way across the sands and up to the young man that would forever be his.
Not to be left unnoticed, the Stay The Course egg began to crack, then topped sideways and bumped heavily into the Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo egg, sending the pair of them rolling in opposite directions. The first to find freedom wasStay the Course who revealed a blue dragonet, shaking his head to rid himself of the dizziness of rolling around, the youngster staggered to his feet, taking a few tries before success was reached, and then took a tumble once more. Gravity was not the poor fellow’s friend!
In contrast, the brown that hatched fromBibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo seemed to find his feet quickly, and with much more grace, though wet sand still stuck to his nose, which had poked through the shell first and his first breath of air had included a lungful of the grainy substance. He paused in his steady walk, eyes crossing slightly, before his whole body jumped backwards as a powerful sneeze tore through him. Startled, he sat down, successfully knocking Life’s An Illusion tumbling sideways to crash heavily into Never Stop Learning.
To say the little green from withinNever Stop Learning was displeased with her rough entrance into the world would be a severe understatement. With a screech of fury, her little legs flew in every direction as she scrambled to her feet, climbing half over the Life’s An Illusion egg before it crumpled under her, the blue within squealing in fear at his own rude greeting to the world outside his shell.
Never Stop Learning ’s sand-hardened claws raked over Life’s An Illusion ’s poor face, back, neck and wings as she scrabbled without apology to get her feet under herself and back on the sand itself; Life’s An Illusion mewed and whined in pain as his passenger’s claws ripped through his tender and newly hatched hide. His mews were ignored by the little green, who snapped her teeth at him for wriggling so much, and left teethmarks in the blue’s left headknob before she finally managed to scramble off.
Life’s An Illusion squealed in pain and threw his head up, toppling backwards over the Live and Learn egg, crushing it and force-hatching the green within, who creeled pitifully. Never Stop Learning sneered with hot red eyes as her siblings struggled for their feet, and she ran headlong into the candidates, flicking one around the shins with her tail before she face planted into the shins on her chosen human.
Live and Learn cried sadly, pitifully and heartbreakingly as she struggled to get out from under Life’s An Illusion who chittered and creeled in apology as he attempted to not turn his green sister into the ichor leaking mess such as he currently was. Both dragonets stilled as one, when a sudden and very loud crash of thunder ripped through the sky above the Sands, before two sets of eyes whirled desperate rainbows and two young men came sprinting forward to rescue their young bondeds from the odd entanglement they’d gotten themselves into.
While the young men were untangling their dragonets, the Think Happy Thoughts egg seemed to find its moment to shine, and after a bit of a fight, a brown dragonet managed to wriggle his way free from his egg, leaving the shell mostly intact. Looking around curiously,Think Happy Thoughts seemed to be quite happy to simply watch the events for a moment. Snorting softly, he stood up on slightly unsteady legs, and stumbled his way over to the I’ll Be There egg. It was quaking, but hadn’t yet managed to crack.
Reaching out with his nose to poke it,Think Happy Thoughts was badly startled when a nose appeared suddenly through the shell to bump against his own. I’ll Be There ’s blue nose snorted in surprise, before withdrawing rapidly back into the shell. Think Happy Thoughts crept a bit closer, and stuck his nose in the hole, only to withdraw it with a startled squeak when the other dragon licked his nose.
Shaking his head,Think Happy Thoughts turned and trotted off to find his human, leaving the unhatched I’ll be there to figure the whole hatching deal out on his own.
