“Well I’m certainly not going to have her mad at me!” B’jin teased in response, keeping his voice pitched low so the girl wouldn’t hear him. He was perfectly aware that it was his fault they were taking so long – he wasn’t about to tell Amorandii that, however! Brown eyes sparkling and grinning cheerfully, B’jin stepped lightly after R’nd, almost – but not quite – bouncing as he followed his lover.
The greenrider hid a smile behind his hand as Amorandii looked up at R’nd, utterly scandalised. He probably would have laughed less, if he had realised how similar to his own that expression was. “You can’t be my date!” the little girl’s voice was as scandalised as her face. “You’re my uncle.” She gave him a dirty look, as if suggesting such a terrible thing was beyond him, before leaning in and whispering with great confidence. “Anyway. Daddy would be jealous.” B’jin barely managed to turn his laugh into a cough, and ended up choking on it.
“I don’t think he meant literally, Amorandii.” B’jin said once he’d regained the ability to breath, and he stepped forward, stopping by R’nd’s side and squatting down to whisper with just as staged a voice as his daughter had used moments before, brown eyes widening dramatically. “I’m sure I can share him for just one day!” A bright wink was tossed at R’nd, lips twitching into a laughing smile as Amorandii considered what her father had said before throwing herself at the bluerider and hugging his waist. “Okay then!”
Cinnamon buns for breakfast, I believe! The green dragon pitched in helpfully, shoving her way in so she could stick her nose in the door with a great snort, watching the humans with interest. C’mon, before the other brats eat them all! Amorandii gave a squeal of horror and released R’nd by shoving herself away from the bluerider and dashing towards the dragon. “Hurry up! Hurry up!” By the time B’jin and R’nd made it out the door, the girl was all settled atop Larrikith and flapping her hands impatiently at them while Larrikith rumbled with laughter.
“You’re not flying without straps, Andi.” B’jin could be reckless with his own flights on Larrikith, but there was no way under the sun he was letting Amorandii fly around without riding straps. We’re not going to fly! Larrikith pitched in, standing up and bumping her tail against Ayyonth as she snorted at the humans. We’re going to walk because B’jin is a stick in the mud. So you can walk too! With another rumble and the dragon literally sticking her tongue out at B’jin, the green pranced off with her wings half extended and Amorandii laughing delightedly.
B’jin just stared after them for a moment. “Today is going to be really long.”
