“You are welcome,” the bronzerider murmured softly, doting almost entirely on Whisper as the little gold purred in his lap. Firelizards were remarkably easy creatures to please, and R’nya enjoyed their gentle and placid delight in being spoiled. Of course, not all of them were as sweet as Rhaedalyn’s lot, but that was okay. He did not have to put up with many of the other Weyr’s firelizard residents!
Blue eyes lifted to blink at Rhaedalyn as she began speaking again, and R’nya shrugged one shoulder lazily. “Do not fret about the kitchen, my dear,” he responded lightly, a light whisper of amusement flickering on the edges of the words. He loved his girls dearly, but some of them were so far focused on being proper even in those few moments when such manners were not required that the bronzerider found it both amusing, endearing and occasionally flustering. At the end of the day, it was a good thing, but teaching them to manage when was and was not the right time was proving to be difficult. His attention returned to Whisper for several moments as he considered the girl’s words.
“You should stay,” R’nya frowned, eyebrows furrowed in concern as he glanced up at Rhaedalyn once more. It was far too late for young ladies to be wandering around the Weyr, particularly one of his young ladies, and while her not-so-little dragonet should offer her some measure of protection (and Aradissicath was certainly intimidating when she wanted to be), R’nya wasn’t quite prepared to bet on that alone keeping her safe. There were some riders that seemed to get far too much of a thrill out of a challenge. The gossip the Weyr would come up with if Rhaedalyn stayed the night would not be nearly as damaging as what could happen if he shipped her out the door just so he could get some sleep! No, that wouldn’t do at all.
Standing up fluidly, R’nya mumbled a quiet ‘one moment’ and vanished into his room with quick strides, Whisper relocated on his shoulder with a confused chirp. His one moment however, became several moments before he reappeared in the doorway and made his way hazardously across the room to dump a couple of blankets and a pillow on the couch. Extending a hand to Rhaedalyn, R’nya waited for the confused girl to take it before ushering her towards his room. “I changed the bedding for you. You can stay in here.” Giving the girl a gentle shove to prevent her attempting to bicker with him (something he was sure she would at least try to do) R’nya quietly shut the door and returned to the couch.
Wake me if she tries to sneak out before daybreak. With issues ordered to Xyreith, who snorted softly at Aradissicath, the bronzerider collapsed onto the couch and threw the blankets hazardously over himself. He waited about twenty minutes to be sure Rhaedalyn wasn’t going to try and sneak out to do the dishes or tiptoe home in the dark, before giving in to sleep.
