The newly dubbed Stubborn lay curled up asleep in a sling across Ravana's chest, clean and shimmering faintly golden in the sunlight that streamed in Ravana's windows. A brand new cloth collar lay around her neck, the tag on it simply reading, "Stubborn". Shanith had gone to chatter the news of Ravana impressing the little gold to Olemuth, the green beyond excited about the new addition to the awkward family unit that had recently sprung up.
Ravana stroked the sleeping lizard's flank, amazed at the soft purr she gave, then tugged out a piece of paper and something to write with. The letter was dated and Ravana took a moment to gather her thoughts. Finally, she began her letter to her son. She wrote one every sevenday, and stored them all in a wood and metal box. They were R'ana's biggest secret, for the letters contained enough information to sink her in so many ways...but she kept them well hidden, and wouldn't stop writing them. They were the only connection the rider had left to her son up north. He'd been 3 turns old when they had been banished. He would be 20 now.
Davan,
I hope wherever you are, you are happy.
Things are quiet here, too quiet. Jisralna's baby is growing well though. She's a redhead like her mom, and I think she'll grow up to be a firecracker like Jisralna. I hope so anyway. B'run's back is healing well, and I resumed my exercises this week. Shanith's all out of condition from the two weeks down time I took so I need to work her into better shape. That's gonna be a pain in the ass.
She Flew recently, and B'run's Olemuth caught her. I find myself half hoping to give Berani a sister...enough that I'll skip my usual postflight trip between and wait. She still isn't talking and I'm getting really worried. I think I'll have to pull her out of the creche. I need to speak to Jisralna about that, and maybe some of the others around me. Shanith's calmed down some, but I still won't have time to raise a toddler alone.
I wish you could see him and Shanith cuddle. She'd take offense but it is adorable how she dotes on Olemuth. He's twice her size, and yet seems to enjoy just curling around her and listening to her chatter and chatter...and chatter. I'm happy, Shanith gets into less trouble that way.
Though, she did find chaos this morning. I still don't know how Shanith managed it, but she found a destroyed firelizard nest and called me to her. The other survivor died while I was trying to save her and her sister, but I managed to save and Impress a gorgeous little gold! I didn't want a firelizard, but Stubborn seems quiet enough. She's a bright yellowy gold with black paws, snout and headknobs, and these cute black splotches all over her face. She was stubborn enough to pull through an early hatching, and I think if I keep her warm and fed she'll be alright. I hope so anyways, it's what the beast crafter I spoke to on the way home says.
She's stirring so I'm going to go feed her. I will write you again next week and give you a progress update then!
Love,
Mom
Ravana folded the letter, and added it to the box, slipping it back into it's hiding place in a false bottom to her leftmost bookcase. That done she went to the kitchen to feed Stubborn, cooing softly over the gold and sending her waves of love and reassurance. It was plain the petite greenrider was already appallingly attached.
