“Rhae!” Kahleena squealed, obviously excitable as she bounced to meet her friend, throwing herself at her spontaneously for a hug. “Isn’t this exciting?” She asked brightly, quite clearly not referencing the reason they were there, but the fact that they were. They were going on an adventure! Okalinath crooned a greeting to Aradissicath as she joined them, the adult-sized gold nuzzling her young sister with gently swirling eyes.
A pout suddenly formed on Kahleena’s lips and she sulked, shoulders drooping. “My Weyrlingmaster said I’m not allowed to ferry you,” the pout was clear in the girl’s voice and brown eyes were sulky. Okalinath snorted, nuzzling Kahleena’s back as she spoke gently to Rhaedalyn and Aradissicath; They do not wish to risk losing us all, should we fail the trip between, her voice was mildly amused. She had no intention of failing the trip between, but unlike her sulking rider, Okalinath could quite clearly see the relevance of their thought process. Losing one gold would be a terrible blow; losing two so young would be beyond awful, particularly with the day’s events already lined up!
Kahleena continued to pout until Rhaedalyn’s words finally registered, and the girl blinked, her expression brightening once more as she looked around curiously. Besides the three weyrling classes, and most of the female candidates, there was a significant number of dragonriders present. “There are so many of them!” Her eyes were wide; she and Okalinath had decided after some random conversation that only enough would come to ferry the babies, the Weyrlingmasters, and a mix up of their assistants to help carry the non-riders. It was startling to see so many others present!
Kahleena, we are to join the others. Okalinath spoke softly, her head having risen to peer in the direction of their weyrlingmaster and then lowering it once more to breathe warm air on Rhaedalyn’s face and lick Aradissicath’s nose as Kahleena brushed her hands over her long split skirt. The girl had taken a rather strong shine to the skirt that Weyrwoman Tsuen had made her; it was split down the middle to form pants, the legs, pleated and used a lot of material, created a full skirt effect while still allowing her to ride easily. Kahleena loved them!
“See you when we get there!” Kahleena grinned, eyes sparkling, before moving in the direction of her class so the man could go over the straps Okalinath was sporting and make sure nothing was amiss. Kahleena knew the day in and of itself was an awful one but she was choosing very firmly to look at the bright side of it – perhaps the only bright side – and that was the adventure! The trip between and a day spent with other girls and dragons far further from the Weyr itself than she’d gone since she’d come South! It was going to be such fun!
