Rhaedalyn was almost antsy and played with her fingers nervously as she waited for her turn. She did her best to keep an eye on Kahleena who seemed extremely thrilled for her but Rhaedalyn wasn’t sure if she could share that enthusiasm. There was a chance she might like the golden creature and then not be chosen. After all, there were several girls all looking to Impress the same dragonet. Mevrit was a good choice, as were Jisralna and Aparicus. What made her stand out above those girls? Was there a chance she would jump in front of the other girls, like Kahleena had been pushed, to steal the Impression – if it even worked that way?
Last Touching she hadn’t been allowed on the Sands since they didn’t see a golden egg and Rhaedalyn had been crushed. Disappointment at being a failure was strong and she ran off crying. Now, she was allowed on the Sands and was about to meet the newest golden dragon and she was terrified. So much rode on this! They could start a bond, they could hate each other, they could bond at the hatching and new pressures would be placed on them. What if she was a terrible dragonrider? What if her gold never rose? What if she couldn’t maintain a dragon despite always helping V’zire with Niskziath? Maybe it was better to run away in tears again.
She didn’t get that chance though as Aparicus said something to the egg and walked away. It was her turn! Another glance was given to Kahleena and Muffin before slow and trembling steps were taken toward the egg. “Hello, little one,” she greeted softly as Rhaedalyn arranged her skirts to crouch as elegantly as she could. “I hope I’m not bothering you. My name is Rhaedalyn and no matter what, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” She had no idea if the dragonet could hear her or remember anything she said but manners dictated that she introduce herself with a proper greeting. After all, wasn’t she disturbing the dragon and even invading its space by touching it?
This was it! Rhaedalyn was nervous and excited as she lifted a hand to place it on the smooth surface.
