It’s all very exciting, really, the gold said in a tightly wound voice, staring at the goings on through Kahleena’s eyes as the girl watched with obvious excitement. She simply couldn’t wait to have her own clutch! It would be ever so wonderful to watch all the candidates totter around her unhatched babies and pet their shells! Kahleena giggled softly at her young dragon’s enthusiasm, though her own doubts and insecurities – namely about the flight itself – remained strong and steady. She was so afraid!
Kahleena was an intelligent girl. Maybe not the most intelligent around, but she was certainly smart enough to know that her husband would have found a new wife – a better wife – one who could produce beautiful little boys for him, and keep them alive. She’d failed so terribly at being a wife, a mother, and her shame was never ending in such times as those thoughts arose. A chilled shiver travelled down the willowy young woman’s spine and she clung desperately to the reassurance that Okalinath flooded her with. A moment later, and Muffin was twirling through the air before her. The young woman paused, watching him before suddenly reaching out and snatching the tiny blue creature from the air before her. He squeaked, but didn’t fight as she cuddled him close to her chest. She would have preferred to cuddle against Okalinath, but the gold refused to enter the Sands while it was so obviously Krypth’s domain.
Kahleena thought she was being silly, but left well enough alone.
Excited brown eyes watched as each of the young woman took their turn to touch the golden dragonet’s eggshell, Kahleena trembling with excitement to see how it would speak to Rhaedalyn. A genuine smile of encouragement was flashed at Aparicus; Kahleena didn’t recall much about the young woman – she seemed very reserved and withdrawn and Kahleena really didn’t like breaking into people’s bubbles – but she was a potential gold and Kahleena had been in as many lessons with her as not, now.
I wish I had gotten to touch your shell! It was a wistful thought, carrying only half-heartedly to her dragon as she watched Aparicus settle her fingers on the softly shining shell. While the results of the touchings being undergone by the young men should have interested her – after all, potential mates for her Okalinath could be within those eggs – Kahleena found she didn’t care to watch them. She was far more interested in her various friends and acquaintances that were taking turns with Okalinath’s little sister.
I will let you pet my eggs, Okalinath promised softly, bemused by Kahleena’s thoughts. You can prepare them for grubby candidate fingers. Her amused tone caused Kahleena to giggle, before her eyes widened and she leaned forward excitedly. Was it Rhaedalyn’s turn now?! Muffin squeaked when she squeezed him too hard, and Kahleena did her best to loosen her hold, without releasing him.
It was so exciting!!
