Oahvakeen filed into the room, feeling nervious. This was not his first touching, but it was the first one he found himself rather alert at, rather than sleep deprived and barely conscious of himself. His steps were merely adequate for the task at hand, neither fast nor slow, betraying his inner feelings of reluctance and fear. He wore his poker face.
As a Stolen, he'd had more than his fair share of lashings, and he had no desire to get any more today. He'd already decided that he'd attend the touching, to not get lashed, touch the minimal amount of eggs, to not get lashed, and pretend that he'd tried his hardest, to not get lashed. But what if he messed up? What if an egg bonded to him? He felt himself seize up with fear, and tried to dismiss it, for the sake of getting the touching over and done with. He wished that Isscer had given him more tips for avoiding a bond.
Oahvakeen waited until it was his turn, using that time to pick out a nice, non-threatening egg. When it was his turn, he strode quickly to the egg he'd picked out. He knelt and slowly produced his hands, palm up. As if pushing something very heavy, his hands slowly neared the surface of the egg, until they rested on the surface. "I don't want you. I don't want a dragon. Bond to someone else. If you bond with me, I will try to leave you at every opportunity, I don't want you.", his lips did not move nor was his voice heard as he tried to think aloud to the egg.
As if the surface of the egg were searing hot, he retracted his hands and wrung them in his lap. Would touching one egg be enough to satisfy the weyr and appear like he was trying? He pretended that his hands were hurt by the touching and briskly walked back to the line.
