Jada's face twisted as Talian spoke of the pain that D'ren would be suffering for the rest of his life. The man was kind! Such a sweet man, and now he would be tortured for the rest of his life. Someone had tried to kill him, and instead condemned him to suffering. It felt like her face was catching fire, and she tried to control it, clenched her fists into careful balls and dig her nails into the fleshy bits of her palm. It would do no good to show a temper. It wouldn't help D'ren, wouldn't help Talian, and wouldn't help her! Still, she could only control her reaction so far, and she was painfully aware of the fact she was terrible at hiding her feelings.

"I just can't help him. This isn't a simple cold he needs to get over, where I can make him chicken soup and a get well soon note. And they've only let me go with Tsereni a couple of times, and I don't want to impose on S'kef when he's as busy as D'ren ever was, and without the turns of practice." Then again, he might have less turns, but he also didn't have a baby and a goldrider peering nosily over his shoulder.
