Valerian was surprisingly fast asleep and it took a dragon and two firelizards humming and pestering him before he deemed the fuss worthy of waking for. Naturally, when the realisation sank in that it was time for the eggs to hatch, the tune was something different. Forgotten was the idea to slink down under his blankets and hope everyone would leave him alone so he could sleep as the chronicler in him took over and had him working on autopilot to dress. It was a good thing his style of clothing was often seen as odd in the eyes of most people since Valerian wasn't sure if he matched all that well as he fumbled around in the dark to find all the needed items.
Once his boots were laced up, the hunt for writing equipment was underway. Lessons had been learned since the last Hatching he recorded at and Valerian packed his paper, inks, quills (thanks to Quill finding them in the dark for him), and something flat and solid to write on. Veeth was many things but he wasn't made for a neat and easy time of writing upon. With all of the items prepared, Valerian eyed the direction of his kitchen and debated klah. No, there wasn't time. There wasn't a guarantee the first egg would break open the moment he arrived but the Harper didn't want to take any chances and figured getting there early and waiting was better than arriving late and having to go by someone else's report of events.
Apparently Vex didn't agree with him and fluttered around the kitchen chirping and ignoring any summons to return to Valerian until the man went to him. "What are you up to? I'll just leave you behind if you insist on playing," Valerian sighed and went to the firelizard that had settled on the counter beside a pot. "You clever little thing!" A laugh was given as Valerian realised he still had some klah left over from earlier in the day. It was cold, but it was caffeine and despite the odd hour of night, he was willing to chug it down so nothing was missed during what would likely be another vision impaired Hatching. Chugging was exactly how he faced the cold drink as he still didn't want to waste more precious time and once the firelizards, still humming softly in their high pitched voices, had settled onto his shoulders, Valerian was out the door.
Veeth was excited. He peeked through Valerian's memories of both his Hatching and the last one they attended and while there were some scary moments because of Hoth and disappointing moments because of Charath and surprising because of golds in both clutches, his adorable human had enjoyed himself at both and the excitement was contagious. Veeth was looking forward to seeing who else was attending and who would walk away with a new friend for life. The dragonets would be so cute! As they landed, Veeth gave a trill of greeting at Larrikith even though she looked busy and called out to B'jin as well. Valerian bopped him on the head lightly, "stop distracting everyone. B'jin needs to make sure everyone remembers themselves and behaves. You can say hi to everyone after, though." It was so hard to chastise Veeth! Not that the excited little blue was really bothered by it since he had managed to sneak in a couple of greetings.
Although when both human and dragon saw Talian, Veeth couldn't contain himself any longer. Talian had decided he liked him after all and gave gentle pets! A little dance of joy at seeing their friend was given but Valerian had his hand on Veeth's head before a mental word was spoken. "Not Talian, Veeth. After. We'll see him after." Talian may have been fine with the existence of dragons but that didn't mean his friend wanted one. Valerian didn't know how to react upon seeing his friend given their location and what it could mean but he knew he could at least keep Veeth from being his usual chipper self and accidentally adding more pressure or fear to Talian.
"All three of you behave yourselves. No wandering off." Vex and Quill had almost been left behind but he knew Quill was too nosy to stay put and Vex, while anti-social, liked being near their little group and would have had a fit and chide them nonstop when they arrived home. Valerian was confident they would stay close by and not even bother other spectators though, which both proved as they settled in behind him on Veeth's back, ready to enjoy the show.
