Optimism. That was nice to hear. A'liran chuckled a little bit and nodded, not reacting to the soft hand brushing against his cheek. A'liran was a defensive man. He didn't trust anyone, much less some random kid. At the same time, though, A'liran often clamored loudly for recognition. He was a firebreather, calling out for people to acknowledge greenriders for what they ought to be. He wasn't used to actually getting what he asked for, and so easily at that! Too easy. He recoiled.
"You're a good kid," A'liran said. "I'm not tryin' to scare you. I'm just telling you what I wish my weyrling master had told me," he said. He started to take another bite of his foot, but screw it. He pushed the plate away.
"You're right. It's not always bad," he said. "Flights can be fun. They're like this...ultimate sort of freedom." His blood ran hot at the thought. A'liran loved the sensation that came with it. "It makes you feel powerful and free. But here's the thing; those blue and brownriders ought to be thanking us for what we give them. They ought to treat us like we're beautiful, but most of them don't. Some of them do...but most of them don't" He was exaggerating, but he hardly believed so. He spoke from his own experience, which was tainted and biased from his own hard times.
He looked to Seijin again and sneered. "...You just have to be ready for it. I hope that's not what happens to you, though. I hope if you Impress a green, you get treated right...and I hope if you Impress anything else, then you'll actually have a shred of sharding respect."
