R’nd didn’t want to move for several more hours. If there was one thing Ayyonth was good for, it was for resting against on a lazy afternoon on the beach. It was odd how he had snuck away but was still in easy sight of the camp but most of the campers were leaving him alone, likely because both looked so comfortable and they had Larrikith lounging with them as well. She seemed good for keeping certain people away, like Indivara. He had given himself a small break because he had been socialising like crazy the last few days, making sure the Candidates were all okay with camping, letting them know he was there if they had any questions or wanted someone to talk to, and of course, he had spent time with friends like I’shan and B’jin.
Something else that had taken up way more time than he thought possible was looking after Amorandii. That girl could babble! She loved to talk and seemed to think he was the greatest person in the world after her daddy to share every single story she had. It was probably why when a shriek in the distance for a daddy was heard, R’nd didn’t tune it out but sat up straight, knowing it was B’jin’s little girl. Larrikith vanishing a moment later confirmed it but when the little green said everything was fine, R’nd was ready to relax again and go find B’jin but Ayyonth nudged him with his nose to hurry him along before standing which sent R’nd sprawling. B’jin is better off here but you need to see what’s happening over there. Amorandii may need a level-headed guardian.
As a confused R’nd dusted himself off and scrambled up Ayyonth’s side, the blue dragon trembled a little in anticipation of what the discovery would do and shared it with his nearby friends. He reached out to Ilveriath and Veeth, showing them the image Larrikith had shared and telling them to bring their riders along for the show. He also contacted Charath, the green trickster that was growing up to be rather amusing, since R’nd counted Erisi as a friend but also because between Valerian and Erisi, they could get Talian down there as well, assuming Amorandii’s scream didn’t already send him running. With firelizards breaking shell, Ayyonth felt everyone should be there to see it. He wanted a good show with the reactions!
When they arrived with Ayyonth touching down smoothly near his mate and the adorable little girl, R’nd almost missed the commotion off by the boulders with his eyes on Amorandii, verifying with his own eyes that she was indeed okay. It was when he finally heard the creels coming from nearby that he turned and saw the firelizards – and promptly fell off Ayyonth as his dismount went array. Wide-eyed, R’nd scrambled over to Amorandii, dropping to his knees and wrapping an arm around her waist to make sure she stayed right where she was. “Did you go near them? Or touch them?” He couldn’t decide if the call for B’jin had been out of excitement at seeing all the little dragon-like creatures or because one got close and touched or bit her.
He didn’t want to take his eyes off of the creatures he hadn’t seen since he was in his teens, unsure about what they would do, but R’nd wanted to check that Amorandii hadn’t been bit or clawed and first inspection missed it. He was pleased when he didn’t find anything but panic took over when he saw the girl holding some food. “Amorandii, you can’t have that right now!” he’d apologise later if he upset her by grabbing the meatroll from her hand and taking the bag as well when he realised it had her lunch in it. One thing he remembered about firelizards was the way they Impressed. It was the dream of all young boys to find a clutch and Impress one. It wasn’t unheard of to go hunting for them with a bag of food just in case a Hatching was stumbled upon and the little guys took to you because of the food you presented.
B’jin would certainly kill him if he let Amorandii Impress a firelizard by accident because the girl was only trying to feed herself at the wrong moment.
