The terrible mistake she had made the day before, hurting Sanderon the way she had… It tore at her. She had not been able to bring herself to dinner that night or to breakfast this morning, so she was still wonderfully ignorant that Sanderon had snapped and attacked a woman that night or she’d probably be tearing herself up more than she was already. Even so, she had spend the whole morning in her spice garden, pouring herself into her work and managing not to water too many of the plants with salty tears.
Wide-brimmed hat looked too large on her head as she knelt in the dirt, her skirt properly dirty to show her performed work and her sleeves, for once, rolled up to her elbows. Gently pulling another eater-grub from the mint leaves, she set the grub in her basket before closing the lid gently again. Most gardeners would squish them, but Apari didn’t have the heart to. She’d relocate them outside the Weyr later.
Sitting back on her heels, she stretched her back and looked up at the sun for a moment, listening to her stomach rumble. She really needed to eat something before she got dizzy, but she wasn’t ready to brave a crowd of people yet. Not for something as simple and minor as food. Perhaps after the lunch rush was over…
